This is ridiculous what the seattle council is proposing. Sodo has more camp grounds going in daily! RV and Tents everywhere you look.

A ridiculous idea, which has already been tried in Portland and failed. Could the city do anything else to enhance the quality of life in Seattle?. Remember that is was once declared the most livable cities, well that is quickly changing into one of high density and quagmire. The focus seems to be on legal drugs, heroin save havens, and tent encampments to enhance the city. There is absolutely no consideration for quality of life. Where have aesthetic considerations gone? Public parks, are supported by tax paying citizens and it is time to say no to this deplorable situation.
The program as it stands only encourages and enlarges the homeless population.
the aesthetics gone?

I'm for helping the homeless, but the proposal cannot be ratified as-is. Too much is left to interpretation and would leave the community at the mercy of these camps, taking away time and resources from addressing the problem.
We need to clearly mark suitable areas, direct the homeless to those areas, and put a short time frame on this bill (i.e. 1 year) so we can re-evaluate and make changes as needed.

I was walking by the homeless encampment on the corner of Prefontaine and Yesler downtown around 9am a couple of weeks ago. A woman stepped out of her tent and poured 2-3 gallons of URINE right in front of me on the crosswalk like she was pouring dishwater out at a campsite. What if a young child had walked by? A senior had tripped in this urine waterfall? You will see this type of hazardous waste disposal PLUS human feces pile up at these parks if this goes through. I guarantee you! The campers are NOT going to seek a port-a-potty at 2am in the morning. They will pee or poop right outside their tent as this woman demonstrated. THIS PETITION IS A SAFETY AND HEALTH HAZARD!!!

we need to build real homes for homeless people, not tents in parks. Encampments in parks will turn people away from the homeless and deeper (unjustified) resentments against them. Have a heart, Seattle! Let's tax ourselves to build homes for people who need them. This is a frigging DISGRACE, for which we should be ashamed, ashamed, ashamed!

I am opposed to council bill 118794 regarding homeless encampments. I am a life-long Native born Seattle resident and have lived next to Ravenna Park for 40 years. The ordinance will not help the homeless with the services they need but instead foster further crime, toxic litter and drug use. The encampments in our parks should not be tolerated as they make unsafe the outdoor spaces our parks provide for our children and families. The city paid for national homeless consultants: follow their recommendations that tent camps are not a solution. Review the failure of the similar Portland proposal and the problems it created.

Allowing homeless to camp in Parks is not a solution. It's a terrible Band-Aid that makes it worse for all Seattle residents and visitors.

Seattle needs real solutions to the homeless problem. Please don't destroy our parks. What happened with all the Nickelsvilles?

We have to have a better plan than is currently in place or contemplated. To help the homeless we need to recruit the homeless not represent them through agencies. Letting them camp and then forgetting them is worse than nothing. Lets get homeless involved with helping themselves by offering stable housing, educational help and treatment for the mentally ill.

The difference between scattered camps & large city sanctioned camps is that the responsibility for law enforcement, sanitation and haz mat cleanup is shifted to the community. Do your job.

This is an unconscionable "solution" that will only create greater safety and sanitation issues for the general public at large.

We do need a solution, but turning our parks into camping areas for people who need help is not the answer. Wish the city council would return to Earth...

This legislation must be defeated. We must protect the health of our city. This proposal does absolutely nothing to help homeless people and would do everything to trash our city.
