Come on City Council, what are you thinking? Listen to Tim Burgess. He is wise, oh foolish ones. Wise.

This is a terrible idea. We need better resources to aid in getting the homeless help. Allowing them to camp in parks is NOT the answer.

As a Seattle City resident homeowner, I an appalled by the actions of the current City Council with regard to Bill 118794.

Will the City cover the costs of lawsuits that arise after children playing in the park become infected with hepatitis or HIV from stray injection needles left by campers who abuse injected drugs? City council has no clue what they are doing (yet again).

Please don't do this to our parks.

Let’s do our best to put a halt to the madness before our inept council destroys our parks. The real solution will only come when we can offer hope to the homeless – treatment, housing (with rules), or fines and jail by enforcing the law (i.e., no camping on public land). Simply moving them around is not going to help anyone, and is not compassionate. Lets get help for those who want it, and get some consequences for those that don’t. Enough is enough.

I am opposed to this proposed legislation and ask the Council not to consider it without further input from stakeholders.

Parks are for everyone. We cannot afford the risks to anyone, especially children, with needle pricks and unsanitary conditions.

Seattle parks should be open, accessible and safe to ALL - that includes residents, visitors, kids, families, sports teams, and others who rely on our parks for recreation, exercise, or even a tranquil stroll. This bill does NOTHING to help our most vulnerable community members with housing solutions, and does everything to damage a valued resource in our city. We are already overwhelmed by illegal encampments and their associated problems - this only makes things worse. Please stop this madness.

Keep our parks and other common areas safe for our kids! Homeless folks need help, not tents!

people need help, but this is getting out of hand. tax payers should have the vote. just not the city council.

I have two little girls, and having to share the park with sometimes aggressive homeless people makes it so we can't go to parks anymore. I regret my vote for Mayor Murray.

Giving a public resource - ANY portion of our parks, rights of way, green space - to ANY private use, whether it is tent camping or development - is a failure of the council's duty to safeguard and uphold the public trust. This is public space, not private space. Authorizing a private use such as camping is giving away the common public lands into the hands of a few. At its root, this is the same as giving a piece of our parks over to a condo developer - it is taking it away from the public and giving a small group of private people a preferential use of public space. It is unacceptable. This petition is an excellent plan. Furthermore, the generous citizens of Seattle have voted to support housing many times through taxes designed for housing - our parks are for public park uses; we pay for housing help through housing levies.
