Stop Seattle From Turning Our Parks Into Homeless Encampments

This is outrageous!!! Seattle City council must not put families and youth at risk by turning our parks and playfields into dangerous slums. Wake up, Seattle!!!!!! What about taxpayers rights?!

This has to be stopped, it failed in Portland, the police here will not be allowed to enforce any of the regulations, we deserve better than activist legislation from our city council

I agree with every thing my wife said and hope this city stands up to these clueless council members who dont want to listen and states we are hysterical. If the homeless had any desire to get better they wouldn't be dumping the trash, feces, needles all over. They would clean up after themselves and respect this city and its people. We continue to invite more into this town with no accountability and nothing but free hand outs. I do not want to pay for their way of life. I have a life I would like to enjoy because I have worked hard and dont expect to take care of me. We should handle it like New York city and give these people jobs cleaning up the garbage that they make and also paying them. This is nuts and its like living in Gotham with a clown mayor who only panders to the special interest groups and thinks he is the smartest. I am ashamed of this city and embarassed that we have such incompetent council members. Thank you for starting this petition.

Thank you for doing this. I hope the Seattle voters send the mayor and the city council packing at re-election. They don't care about the people of Seattle it's clear and they are pandering to the special interest groups and they do not have a clue as to help the homeless except to place the burden on the taxpayers with no end in sight, They are all incompetent and are creating a city of users and abusers. If they dont want help they need to leave. We need to take our city back and make the mayor do his job and let police enforce the laws. For example, no camping, no open drug use, no Garbage Rv's parked in every neighborhood selling drugs. Vote the bums out. Get a strong city mayor and a police chief that cant say no to the mayor. She needs to go too!

Convert containers to small temporary shelters ..lease to homelss for small percentage of income contingent upon them completing work skills course and signing up for drug rehab.

This is the worst idea this city counsel has ever had.

It is shameful that if the city does not provide basic services to these people. Simple things like garbage pick-up, toilet facilities, potable water and hygiene stations. If housing and treatment are too much money, picking up garbage and keeping human waste from collecting seems only basic.

Council members are responsible for heeding (and informing themselves about) the views of the electorate (especially those who pay their salaries) What a neighborhood-centered, realistic social conscience solution would look like: The majority if not all the mentally ill and drug-addicted homeless who trash our neighborhoods and threaten our physical safety live in tents or in RVs. The cleanliness and safety of our neighborhoods is paramount--the only starting point for a comprehensive solution. A comprehensive solution will involve the legislature and law enforcement. I would also add city services like Seattle Public Utilities illegal dumping division. They should be tasked with monitoring areas where homeless-generated trash sites are a persistent problem, such as the Burke-Gilman trail in Fremont and Ballard, the neighborhoods near Fred Meyer, etc.

This bill should not only be deferred, it should be dropped entirely. Under no circumstances should we even consider allowing homeless people to live in our parks. The city council members who think this is a debatable proposal must be voted out.

Our mild climate attracts many homeless, in spite of the rain! I fear that letting go ur parks become "free camping zones" will attract even more homeless!

Please stop this madness. This is not a good way to handle the problem of homelessness. It is a good way to make people who have homes move to other cities.

Please focus on a workable solution to this long standing problem. The approach you are heading toward is not in the best interest of the homeless, nor more importantly, the constituent taxpayers you were elected to serve.

This is a misguided idea to deal with homelessness.

I work with homeless everyday in my job in the hospital. This is not even close to a permanent housing solution and it is inhumane to think this is a reasonable solution. All those resources planning to be used for your proposal should be directed to permanent housing solutions. I can't even believe your proposal is being considered. Outrageous!

I've voted for park levy's - if you want me to vote to help with homeless issues I will, put it on the ballot. Don't use parks to house homeless.

I support sanctioned camps, I live close to one and there seems to be no problems. I would prefer more low income housing being built, but tent cities with garbage service and toilets is a better option then random camping under bridges, in parks and on sidewalks.

Don't let homeless take over our parks!! Not a solution

There are far better ways to combat homelessness.

Please use common sense in addressing the homeless situation Seattle is now facing. This bill is not the solution nor a step in the right direction.
