My daughters' school frequently take walks through Interlaken Park. I have serious concerns about the safety and health of her preschool if an encampment is allowed to use the same space. Unsanitary conditions and potentially unsafe activity would put our young at risk.

Please do not do this to our city! It seems crazy that you would think this is helping the homeless in any way.

This is giving the homeless rights that the average citizen of Seattle does not have.. ie, we can't camp in parks or sidewalks.

I've already written emails directly to the city council about this. I am very much against allowing homeless to live in parks and other public areas. Find another solution. The description in this petition is spot on.

Dismayed and outraged by this proposal. Seattle has some of the country's most beautiful, well-used parks - Green Lake, Discovery Park, Magnusen Park, the gorgeous Arboretum. We need a smart, compassionate ways to address homelessness in Seattle. But turning our parks into garbage-strewn, needle-filled, impossible-to-control encampments that are a threat to public safety and health IS NOT IT. STOP THE MADNESS.

No, you can't increase density in the city and destroy public spaces at the same time. Give the homeless the help they need, not parks.

As a tax payer, I believe we are entitled to safe parks for our children and I believe this bill will only hurt the people of Seattle. I vote, and if any council member votes in favor of this measure I will make it my goal to advise as many voters as possible to help vote them OUT!

This plan is ludicrous and a major safety hazard to our children.

City Council hasn't studied or planned. This is not a solution to the homeless problem. It's changing and likely increasing the current problem.

To the City of Seattle and City Council: should Council Bill 118794 pass, what happens the next time we have a Parks levy? That will be a tough sell for the public if the parks are turned into encampments. Has the City Council actually taken a look at what is happening in these parks and open spaces and seen the heaps of garbage and filthy conditions that are left under bridges and in the green spaces throughout the city and along I-5 and elsewhere because of encampments? Is this humane? Would you call this a health hazard? Do you consider this a public safety issue? What about the children and the animals who have no voice in where they live when this form of "public housing" is allowed? Is this this what compassion looks like? It is a form of child and animal abuse in my opinion. I vote for Parks levies every time they are on the ballot. If this is the projected use of public space and parks, no more will the Parks levy, which is so important, get my vote until the use is strictly for Parks and neighborhood enhancement. And for the record, I vote for housing levies every time they are on the ballot too. It is not a good idea to mix parks levies and housing levies into one. Parks and sidewalks are not public housing solutions. The creative energy of the City and Council needs to work with the many agencies that are on the forefront of helping end homelessness, and help people and families achieve self-sufficiency such as the YWCA and United Way, to develop an abundance of affordable and accessible housing solutions that addresses every scenario that represents a barrier to clean and safe shelter. Council Bill 118794 is not a solution at all. Back to the drawing board Seattle City Council!
