Please hear your constituents voices and consider the greater good of all. This proposal is not the answer, and may I dare say, ridiculous.

This is no way for the homeless issue to be resolved. City Council should not put our kids in the middle of a potentially dangerous and harmful situation.

Homelessness is out of control in this city and unfortunately the City Council has proven to be completely incapable of arriving at solutions that work and that keep the city safe and livable for all residents.

Before you consider allowing homeless camping in city parks and sidewalks , look at what happended in Portland when a similar approach was taken !

C'mon, this dim bulb idea of addressing homelessness is not good for anyone or the environment.

Please, let's "lead them out". Ben Franklin (1766) “I am for doing good to the poor, but...I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. I observed...that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer.”

Time for common sense. Enabling this behavior will not help individuals overcome their problems.

Take Portland's example of failure on this type of action as evidence of what will occur should our parks become campgrounds.

Please do not allow this. It is not a fix or a bandaid. Do not let the fringe pass this lunacy.

Homelessness in parks cannot happen. Seriously, city council?? What is wrong with your decision making abilities lately? Unbelievable this is even being considered.

This does not help our homeless at all. Infact, all this law does is take the homeless off the hands of the city and puts it onto us to deal with. Letting the homeless camp wherever they choose is going to bring violence, drugs, and crime into our parks and neighborhoods. They need sustainable living and programs for drug abuse. This needs to stop!

As a homeowner I am tired of all this crap! We the paying public should have a say on this. My property taxes keep going up every year to help pay for these programs that don't work. I have worked all my life and have struggled at times and am tired of all these people thinking they are "entitled" to all these benefits. There are jobs out there but they don't want them.

This is NOT the solution to the homeless problem.

I am a resident of West Seattle (in Councilor Herbold's district) and have recently learned about the proposed changes to Seattle's homeless ordinance, opening wide swaths of our city's parks and natural areas to legal camping by homeless individuals. I am appalled we are taking such a short-sighted approach to this issue. While I agree we need solutions to the growing homeless problem in this city, it is not codifying camping in our neighborhood parks and greenbelts--these are places we all use to escape from our urban existence, take our kids to explore and play, and lead healthier lives. We are all used to some level of homeless activities in these places today, but with passage of this ordinance, homeless camping will be sanctioned and far more difficult to regulate with the additional proposed changes in the ordinance such as requiring notification and alternative suitable options. Please defer a vote on Council Bill 118794 until more reasonable and qualified solutions can be reached.
