Stop Seattle From Turning Our Parks Into Homeless Encampments

This is just the most ridiculous potential piece of legislation I've ever heard of. I'm sympathetic to the homeless, and am one of a few who cook once a month and feed 500 homeless people in shelters. This does NOTHING to help them, will only attract more homeless people from around the country. We had a huge number of them camping under the Magnolia bridge not so long ago, and the city had to move in to clean up all the debris and human waste. These people need help and counseling, not a free pass to pitch a tent wherever they so desire. I've never known such a useless, ineffective mayor and have lived here for over 30 years.

There are whole areas of parks in Seattle I'm afraid to use people there are people camping out in unexpected places. This isn't a solution.

Crime is on the rise, let's not add to it by giving our parks to the homeless who seem to live by their own rules.

This is NOT a solution. It is a bad idea that has nor worked in other cities.

Enough crime. Take our city back.

My thoughts on this are that camping should stay in camping grounds...parks and other are for people to enjoy day to day...I love camping but...I don't think it should be allowed in regular everyday places.

This worries me a lot. I think if people are allowed to camp even in unimproved parts of parks, the effects will quickly spread to playgrounds, picnic areas, parking lots, etc. People will be fearful about walking the trails in carkeek park, for example. And we sure won't want to take our kids for frisbee on the fields which could become tent sites or needle depositories. I know we need solutions, but this idea is crazy.

Having the homeless take over parks preventing the rest of the population from enjoying the green spaces they pay for is no solution.

NO!!!! This is not the right answer to solving the homeless problem. The city of Seattle is a big dump now. I'm sick of not being able to walk on a public sidewalk because of the aggressive, confrontational people who set up their tents. I'm sick of the smell of human urine along with piles of human feces at bus stops. In addition, I was almost punched by a homeless woman for simply walking by her. I hate what's happened to Seattle it's absolutely filthy and disgusting. Pls don't allow homeless camping in our parks or on our sidewalks. It's not the right solution!

Dear Seattle City Council Members:
 Council Bill 118794 is not a solution to remedy unsafe conditions and protect the rights of homeless individuals. It will introduce far more problems than it solves and distract from the real work at hand. Please do not authorize camping in our public spaces, greenways and parks. 
Please: 
1) Vote NO on Council Bill 118794 
2) Use the budget process for the 2017-2018 budget to support the Pathways Home Initiative Priority Actions
 3) Utilize existing laws and policies to reduce the need for sweeps, give advance notice if sweeps are required, and improve inter-agency coordination in assisting homeless individuals (make shelters safe, clean and accessible).

So sad that this is what our state has become.... a dump

This concept was tried and failed in Portland. The real answer is to fully fund enough housing and only then enforce no camping rules.

Seattle City Council is now officially fringe, and has lost its collective mind. We need to vote out these far left activist ideologues before they destroy our city. Tim Burgess is the only one who should stay. Stop all homeless encampments! Stop encouraging more homelessness, both homegrown and imports from other regions of the USA, State, and County.
