Stop MBL/SBG in Moscow Schools

This grading system would keep me from sending my child to Moscow.

From my perspective as a student, mastery based learning hinders my ability to learn the material in a course and it fails to prepare me for the rigorous academic workload I will face in college.

No response (or "we will be back to you soon" and then crickets) is a common refrain heard from the members of the group. :-|

Here is a copy of an email I sent Greg Bailey. He never responded. Greg, No offense, but you're putting lipstick on a pig here. In five years this ridiculous teaching method will be trash-heaped like all the rest that came before. You won't care, because you'll have your golden parachute, but it is despicable that you are experimenting with young minds that deserve discipline, challenge and earned self-esteem. Might I suggest the old McGuffy reader, or any set of textbooks from the previous century? Most children would fail at their grade levels from 100 years prior. Why do they keep dumbing down the SAT? Teaching methods and the evaluation process need to work in harmony. Not 100% convinced that MSD has everything in place yet.

Greg Bailey misleads and misrepresents the faculty and staff of Moscow School District, quoting false statistics and threatening teachers’ job security on the topic of mastery and standards based education.

While I admit I’ve never attended a school board meeting, I can attest to feeling completely in the dark with regards to my child’s education. There is never any homework and to make these changes that leave many educated people scratching their heads wondering how the education system changed so much should be worrisome.

Appalling, shady, politically-driven decisions made without public awareness cannot stand. Our Children and Educators deserve more.

This will not work!

I would like to see my children's grades go back to A-F. As a parent I want to understand the progress to help at home. Provide appropriate praise or help.

Please utilize a system that will work to communicate with parents! I feel like I am in the dark, and I am unable to help my kid! This year has been very disappointing thus far!

Private school is looking better and better everyday. I never thought I would say that.

This switch has been handle in a very poor, secretive and shady way. Extremely unprofessional and reeks that the administration pushing for it knows it is bad for the kids futures.

As the parent of a MMS student, I am extremely disappointed in our district and superintendent for allowing teacher ease program into our schools. It is not best for our children and I have yet to talk to a parent in support of it.

I have a child at MMS. Another on the way. From what I understand Greg Bailey crammed this change through. The school board approved it. Just another excuse to change things for the sake of change, Dilbert style. The change is a complete waste of time with negative consequences. Frankly I think we need a new superintendent as this isn’t the first bad decision he’s made to the detriment of our teachers and kids. Even his hiring was a scam. One finalist for his job? Really? And it was him?

I have already started seeing the many flaws of this system and most kids are extremely frustrated with this new system. My daughter is a great student but feels very disheartened by Teacher Ease as do most of the kids she knows.
