Stop RAILROADING communities! It is an expression for a reason - because like the robber barons before you, the railroad have been a tool to violate treaties and land rights, disrupt and destroy communities and have always privileged white wealthy interests over equity and justice.

I stand in solidarity with Sogorea Te' Land Trust, Brower- Dellums Institute, Planting Justice who have raised concerns about the social and environmental impacts of this project. The needs of the people in Oakland, including the Indigenous and Black people who steward land in East Oakland must be made a priority.

This will have huge impacts south in San Leandro and Hayward and seems totally nonsensical: abandoning longstanding Amtrak passenger terminals to freight trains and putting long, slow freight trains through urban centers next to BART and bus lines. What could possibly be the reason for this change?

The Greenway is more important to the community than an Amtrak train. Durin economic collapse, people need community gathering and gardening space. During ecological collapse, we must become more stationary to save the planet.

We want to make sure that the Railroads do not block and do allow a pedestrian bridge to be built along the San Leandro (Lisjan) Creek Greenway Trail for the public to access natural areas, access to BART, the bay and estuary, and to plant trees. Additionally, we want to ensure that the Railroads address the safety needs along the tracks, address the noise behind homes (by installing sound walls, double-paned windows), address traffic jams, pollution and whatever else is needed.

I am a civil engineer living in the East Bay and I oppose the decision of Amtrak to switch to the Union Pacific tracks that run through an already neglected community--unless the community is properly compensated on their terms. Civil engineering projects and decisions such as this one often exacerbate the social, economic, and health disparities already present in our system. Deep East Oakland should NOT have to bear these burdens while Amtrak profits. The least that Amtrak could do would be to provide proper compensation for the lowered standard of living in the neighbourhood that will follow Amtrak's decision.

I am writing to urge reconsideration on this project. The rail line move will bring noise and pollution to an already impacted area. Additionally, it will block a much needed greenway thats being planned by a coaltion of community orgs. Please do not proceed with this project.

I am a homeowner at the Habitat housing development on Edes Av. My house is directly behind the train tracks and is separated by those by a wall. The wall is not enough to isolate us from the noise, dust and vibrations!!! The noise is at all hours of the day and night. It wakes me and my son up at night and the vibrations are sometimes so violent that it feels like an earthquake! I don’t want more trains passing by behind my backyard.
