Demand equity from Amtrak in East Oakland!

I'm a native East Oakland resident that currently stay in the nearby neighborhood of North Stonehurst. I was looking forward to the San Leandro Creek Urban Greenway opening so that I could take my God Son on a safe bike ride to the Martin Luther King Jr. Shoreline.

Deep East Oakland is home to essential workers across the bay area. Our beautiful neighborhood has already suffered enough with illegal dumping, pollution, and noise that's already frequent in our streets. Building this railroad not only amplifies this in our community, but also prevents our neighborhood from flourishing; better funding for schooling, cleaning up our streets, providing decent housing, all things that build towards a better quality of life that Deep East Oakland desperately needs. The short-term efficiencies gained from the train relocation will never repair the damage that will be experienced for decades to come if the city moves forward with the project. I urge you not to proceed with this project and give struggling communities an opportunity to grow. Please do not abandon our neighborhood and undermine positive change in our community by relocating routes here.

I am concerned about the impact this rail realignment will have on sovereign land of the Ohlone Tribe in Oakland, as well as neighbors along the East Oakland corridor. Any rail realignment must allow for a pedestrian trail undercrossing along the San Leandro (Lisjan) Creek Greenway Trail for the public to access natural areas, access to BART, the bay and estuary, and to plant trees. In addition, the railroad must ensure the safety and protection of neighbors along the track in terms of pollution, traffic, and sound, and include all necessary mitigations to this effect.

I am opposed to the proposed Train relocation project by Amtrak. This change will diminish the quality of life in the community due to increase noise , pollution and traffic congestion.

This proposal smacks of environmental racism. Poor communities of color shouldn't have to bear the impacts of pollution so that corporations can make more profit.

This proposed realignment will cause longer wait times and idling cars while waiting for freight trains to pass through town at many busy intersections - the increased emissions generated by the realignment will exacerbate the public health problems that our residents, especially children, face from poor air quality - many of our neighboring cities have invested millions of dollars and hundreds of hours developing TOD projects. This realignment will deliver a blow to the vast investments these communities have made. Also, it will add to pollution and congestion that these TODs were meant to diminish.

I am an Oakland resident & I support the Sogorea Land Trust’s criticism of the Union Pacific Railroad’s new route through the San Leandro Creek Greenway Project. Please work with indigenous communities on this.

This change will bring noise, pollution, and traffic back-ups at the street crossings. All of this will only save Amtrak 13 minutes. This short amount of time is not worth the decline in quality of life that all people and businesses along the rail will feel!

safe school routes for pedestians, bicycles... less poluttion

I stand in solidarity with East Oakland residents regarding Amtrak service.

I urge Capitol Corridor to consider the undue burdens additional traffic on this rail line (as well as the intended freight line) will put on residents, schools, businesses in Sobrante Park and Columbia Gardens (Oakland). The impacts to health and environment are not warranted in exchange for a mere few minutes saved by South Bay commuters. The rail line move will bring noise and pollution to an already impacted area. Additionally, it will block a much needed greenway that's being planned by a coalition of community orgs. Please do not proceed with this project as planned.

The gridlock, noise and air quality, not to mention the quality of life, are all MAJOR concerns for this area. No concessions are being granted to this area due to the continued non concerns of the residents!

“Conditions on 105th St., where the proposed route runs behind Planting Justice is already intolerable, particularly during times when children are being dropped off and picked up from school. Grid-lock is a daily occurrence during stated times!”

Everyone should have the right to clean, green space - no matter your socioeconomic background. Less affluent neighborhoods need investing in - not disruptions and disturbances that would depreciate the environment.

This project should be stoped in its tracks. Please work with the community and understand their livelihood and needs before continuing.

This proposed route disproportionately impacts BIPOC and, as another signer named, is a prime example of environmental racism. I hope that Amtrak would please seek another alternative to relocate their train routes to not disrupt our neiborhoods and businesses. Thank you
