Stop Public Access–Turkey Neck POA

Why is the State paying 3+ times the market value for this parcel? Who is benefiting from the excessive price; certainly not the taxpayers - State wide.

As a property owner in Back Bay, I find this mind boggling. Who can possibly think this is a good idea? Government gone crazy.

I am adamantly opposed to this proposal at every level. This site is inappropriate for the use proposed by the DNR.

I oppose this acquisition for 3 reasons: 1) The public was not given an appropriate opportunity to comment. The plan will have a significant impact on nearby residents. The sale process should be halted until the public has an opportunity to comment. 2) The price proposed to be paid for the property appears to be much higher than for other current lakefront parcels of similar size. In addition, it is not clear that this property “percs” well enough to be sold as a residential parcel, also reducing its value significantly. 3) This acquisition does not follow 2008 Garrett County Comprehensive Plan, which specified several potential new public access points, as follows: “Near the Deep Creek Lake dam, with access from Mayhew Inn Road; On DNR-owned land along Cherry Creek Cove, near the intersection of Rock Lodge Road and State Park Road; Deep Creek Lake State Park, near the Administrative Office; South of Point View Inn, near McHenry ; On the south side of the Deep Creek Bridge (US 219), where there is an existing DNR-owned parking lot and fishing access area.” This wide-ranging plan was developed by the Garrett Count Planning Commission with the input of a host of informed sources including: Garrett County Commissioners, County Administrator, Garrett County Planning and Land Development Office, Garrett County Health Department, Department of Public Utilities, General Services, Garrett County Economic Development office, Community Action Committee, Inc., County Roads Department, Department of Public Safety and Emergency Management, Maryland Department of Natural Resources. Why was their recommendation ignored in favor of an unpublicized deal for an overpriced property?

Why Here, Why Now, Why Over Spend the Taxpayer's Money? Look at a map of the lake. How many roads are dead end with only 17 homes? The present road is narrow. When cars do occasionally met they slow to a crawl to pass. It might not be necessary; however it is how neighbors respect one another. Generally, this is followed by a wave or a brief conversation through open windows. A slower pace of life, for sure. The Park Access Road would need to be widened, telephone poles relocated, guard rails placed and curves straighten out. Don't forget the double yellow line. We live just outside Washington DC. The airport operates 6am to 12 midnight. Two blocks away sirens warn inhabitants of an emergency vehicle going to the hospital. Cars in constant motion as people move through life on a 24/7 basis. Noise, Noise and more Noise. Yacht Club Road is different. Birds always share their songs. 1/2 mile away you can hear a car moving along Turkey Neck Road. Sound travels great distances when the environment is quiet. Individuals who live great distances away from this country lane have chosen to pollute our environment. Not with material objects per say, but with noise. The Bald Eagle has frequented the wooded point along with other flora and fauna. Perhaps some endangered species reside there; has anyone checked this important mission prior to eradicating another species? If this plan progresses more cars will invade this delicate space. People seeking access will arrive early in the morning to take advantage of the quiet water before the lake awakens with boat traffic and skiers, open and close car doors, talk, unload boats and bump them toward the lake. Bathrooms will need to be provided or do you have another option in mind? How will trash be handled? Will people be able to cook out in this state controlled area? Who will see to the daily clean up? I think it is ridiculous that the DNR would spend $1 Million dollars for a small parcel of property without any public comment but yet they won't commit this kind of money to the sediment issue.

No more traffic and influx, please.

Ventures such as this one goes completely against the core of the efforts that the present property owners association and the DNR are expending to guarantee that Deep Creek Lake remains a treasure that the State of Maryland can be proud of and that can be passed on to future generations for their enjoyment. It is a complete waste of taxpayers money, unneeded and sounds as though there is more to this than meets the eye. I am completely against this project.

I think this is a bad idea. it will create boat and auto traffic, increase pollution and is an unnecessary waste of taxpayer money.

It is insane that this sale is going through without resident approval. Residents deserve to be heard as this will hugely effect their day to day lives and property value.

I cannot believe that our State and County representatives would consider such an unwanted and unnecessary project without more public input.

Purchase of a small parcel of land for a high price is ridiculous. My property value has gone down not up at the lake. I'm not sure why this particular property of less than 1 acre is selling for over a million dollars!

How underhanded to establish this sale and plans without letting the numerous homeowners have knowledge! Affects usage and our value .

This is an outrage

They need to pick a different lake this one is way to busy already. The people who want the access should spend a Saturday in a lift jacket in the middle of the lake and see how safe you feel waiting for your boat to pick you up.

Due to safety concerns surrounding the condition of Yacht Club Road, its limited access/egress, and increased lake traffic, I strongly urge halting the proposed DNR purchase/potential public access site of the peninsula between Ezra Savage Road and Yacht Club Road at DLC. Long time Garret County residents reside on Yacht Club Road and adding public access to state park-related water activities would result in significant changes to the natural lake environment. The State or specifically, Maryland residents/ tax payers, will be burdened with the added costs for the required associated amenities (i.e., rest rooms, trash collection/disposal, parking lot, security patrols, etc.). This is not a cost nor atmosphere County residents welcome or should be forced to endure on a daily basis.

Please help keep this lake safe and environmentaly friendly.
