To: City Council
We demand the City of Spruce Grove Enforcement Services remove all forms of photo traffic enforcement. These devices do not reduce accidents or change driving behaviour as the notification of an offence is received long after the event occurred. Our goal is to have City Council vote to abolish the photo enforcement system as in other jurisdictions in favour of additional resources as required to complement existing enforcement.
I have never had an accident in all my 32 years of driving. Add to this I have never had a private citizen file grievance against me in my life. I have lived in Calgary for six years and never once received a ticket for anything. I have lived in Spruce Grove now for 8 years and have payed somewhere around two thousand dollars in local fines. I am very sure that everyone living in Spruce Grove receives yearly tickets in the mail and can relate to my experience. I have become a driver who is constantly focussed on the potential camera hiding somewhere. If mobility is a hallmark of freedom then this is an attack on freedom. Those who trade in freedom for safety receive neither!...this isn't about the guy in the red Camaro anymore, it's about money and the family in the minivan.
