To: City Council

We demand the City of Spruce Grove Enforcement Services remove all forms of photo traffic enforcement. These devices do not reduce accidents or change driving behaviour as the notification of an offence is received long after the event occurred. Our goal is to have City Council vote to abolish the photo enforcement system as in other jurisdictions in favour of additional resources as required to complement existing enforcement.

Updates

December 19, 2015

The momentum behind this push to strip the city of its cash grab cameras is proof that residents are fed up with being treated like ATMs. Spruce Grove City Council can no longer ignore this anger while they hide behind these machines to pad their budget.

I have never had an accident in all my 32 years of driving. Add to this I have never had a private citizen file grievance against me in my life. I have lived in Calgary for six years and never once received a ticket for anything. I have lived in Spruce Grove now for 8 years and have payed somewhere around two thousand dollars in local fines. I am very sure that everyone living in Spruce Grove receives yearly tickets in the mail and can relate to my experience. I have become a driver who is constantly focussed on the potential camera hiding somewhere. If mobility is a hallmark of freedom then this is an attack on freedom. Those who trade in freedom for safety receive neither!...this isn't about the guy in the red Camaro anymore, it's about money and the family in the minivan.

Put them in school zones, where they might do some good. There are more accidents because of these, as people try to hurry through lights so they won't have at a red light at every intersection!!

I certainly won't be patronizing Spruce Grove anymore. I usually come in from Acheson for lunch and shopping but the $405 ticket for not comping yo a complete dead stop in addition to other very low speed violations is pathetic. I'll take my chances in Edmonton from now on. Good job City of Spruce Grove.

When your issuing tickets at 10 kms over, that is bs. An rcmp won't pull you over unless your doing 11 kms over or faster. It is not a deterant, it is a cash grab,

I agree. This photo radar is getting completely out of hand here in Spruce Grove. I am 61 years old and am a good driver. I didn't get a ticket for years and years and now have gotten 2 of them in 6 months! The first one is because I went over the speed limit only for a few seconds on Hwy 16 close to Century Road and now for not stopping at a stop sign, which I always do by the way, which cost me $388! It looks like I did not come to a COMPLETE stop. By the way, in the photo, my break lights were on! It's a cash grab pure and simple. The city of Spruce Grove has got to STOP nickel & diming the drivers. Stop fining people for basically minor infractions. On a different note: when I moved here in 1996 it was a nice and QUIET place. Now all I here is loud motorcycles and 'suped' up car engines going up and down Grove Meadow Drive. I don't see the police doing anything about that though! Why? Is it too hard? I guess it's just easier to get cash from fines from photographs. Something has got to be done about this. This photo radar has become abusive! It's just not right! Because of this, S.G. has a bad reputation for nailing suckers who drive by and in this city. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH !

I would much rather be pulled over by a cop then get a picture in the mail! Make the speeding ticket count not just have intrapment traps!
