PAY-TO-PLAY is a term used in politics, entertainment, broadcasting, visual arts, finance, and sex. It is used to describe the practice were someone pays another in order to receive a favor. This petition is to STOP PAY-TO-PLAY IN SUPPORT OF MUSICIAN'S RIGHTS! The practice of "pay[ing] to play" is defined as bands paying to play live at a bar, club, or venue where the payments are typically made to the owners of the club; or to a middleman or proxy, otherwise known as promoters. Promoters get bands to guarantee tickets in advance in order to get on shows to the tune of hundreds to thousands of dollars. It is also referred to the practice where media charges musicians to retain a review or interview. This practice of pay to play is an exploitation of musicians that compromises the integrity of the music community as a whole. This is a petition in support to STOP PAY-TO-PLAY IN SUPPORT OF MUSICIAN'S RIGHTS! You are stating by signing that you feel it is an unfair business practice that needs to stop and you are anti PAY-TO-PLAY IN SUPPORT OF MUSICIAN'S RIGHTS!
