We have been coming to the island for years. We have always enjoyed shopping at the island shops, buying locally crafted items for ourselves and as gifts instead of buying the tourist-style Chinese made crap in the more public places.

I'm from North Carolina and stay overnight on Jekyll Island every year when I drive south to visit family for the holidays. I always make a point of shopping at the small, locally-owned shops in the historic district, which are an absolute highlight of my trip. Please protect these small businesses and allow them to continue operating where they are. They add so much charm to the island. Jekyll won't be the same without them!

JIA will soon learn that the history and nostalgia are why people come to Jekyll and not some new chain store type shops. Once the shops we have come to know and love are gone visitors will stop coming! Stop this ridiculous plan before its too late.

Pier road vendors have been essential over the past 30 years we've chosen to vacation on Jekyll. They deserve more consideration than a mere 90 days notice of lease non-renewal
