It would seem that if JIA had a plan that was better for tourists, residents and merchants, that it would be known to all.
As it stands, it appears the current path will create an awkward void in the historic district for an unknown period of time that is likely not optimal for any of the stakeholders.

This is a nightmare. I’m not actually typing this right now. A PLACE I COME WITH FAMILY AND MY FRIEND ATRIEL IS BEING TORN DOWN!!!! I AM EXTREMELY UPSET! This is unacceptable. The Historic District is so beautiful

This is a terrible decision. This is a CYA and a Nazi move. This is a heartbreaking and a no conscience decision. This is a bunch of people trying to destroy what IS THE HISTORIC DISTRICT. There are millions. YES, MILLIONS of wonderful people that come her every year and love to get away from corporate owned bs situations. This is wrong. This is just stupid. It’s worse than stupid. It’s idiotic. No one wants this. No one with a heart and a functional brain wants this.

Will the JIA ever learn that when you mess with Jekyll traditions you rile people up? This move was handled in the most thoughtless, insensitive and ridiculous way imaginable. It is apparent that the JIA gave NO thought to what the shopkeepers would be dealing with on a personal level (loss of livelihood) and what it takes to close a business and the monetary loss they would be facing. The comments by the JIA spokesperson are insensitive.

I was truly upset when the bookstore was closed but this! We have been coming to the island almost 30 years and have noticed an unfavorable trend being set for the lower budget folks. It is causing Jekyll to loose some of what drew us in. We can afford the prices but can't deal with the people the higher prices bring in who doesn't respect and cherish the island for what it is.

I am saddened by the recent decision to eliminate the shops on Pier Road. I personally worked in one of the shops for eleven years and know how locals and Jekyll visitors treasured the shopping experiences there.
I think this recent marketing tactic will hurt the true ambiance of the Historic area. As a resident of the island for 27 years I am against this choice by the JI Authority.

Very sad and frustrating what the JIA has done here. I feel bad for the folks who poured their life blood into maintaining a small business on the island only to be unceremoniously dumped by the JIA.

I am shocked and saddened by the closure of the Pier Road shops. They are wonderful places with amazing and unique products and it’s going to be a huge loss for Jekyll when they close. I’m truly disappointed in the JIA.

We have been coming to the island and shopping in these shops for over 20 years. This is sad and a big mistake. There are no shops like these on the island. Honestly, there aren’t many shops on the island anyway. The shopping district has shops, but they’re small and have no variety. These shops will be missed. They need to figure out a way to keep them.

What they did was dirty and underhanded. JIA’s plans have been underway for a significant period of time, and they wouldn’t have pulled the trigger until their plans were finalized. JIA is, at best, being disingenuous.
