Stop Ousting of Pier Road Historic District Shops in Jekyll Island

Don’t close pier rd!

We have enjoyed visiting the shops on Jekyll Island for many years and are saddened and disappointed they are being forced out of business. We hope the island authority will reconsider this move and will restore tenancy to the many business owners who have given decades of service to island residents and visitors.

I’m disappointed that the JIA did not include the merchants in the conversation to improves sales in the historic district. That way it would have given business owners a chance to sell their businesses or change their way of doing business to drive sales.

I have family on the island. I always enjoyed going to the club and going through the shops. I think the way they have done this is inexcusable. The island is becoming more of the rich and famous and not the family island and gorgeous beaches of my younger years. I realize things change but these shops are people's livelihood and the companies don't care about that. Jekyll will never be the same without the historic district shops

we love the shops and they are a part of the historic district. We just spend the day there.

I think this is a terrible thing that the Island is doing to these shop owners. One of the main reasons my husband and I love visiting Jekyll are these shops. They are so quaint and different. The store owners are kind and friendly. If the Island is getting rid of them to make room for the same tired old big box, commercial stores I will not be coming back to Jekyll.

I've been to Jekyll many times - and the local-run shops and boutiques are one of the things I love the most! Why would anyone want to take away the ambience of this island? It's just more corporate greed in action.

I do not support the JIA taking these facilities away from the current shop businesses.

Save the shops!

We love these shops and know it adds value to the historic story of Jekyll Island. One of Jekyll’s biggest assets is its unique history and those shops help us see the story behind the workers at the JI Club Hotel

The shops are part of the Jekyll experience. I find it reprehensible by this government shutdown.

Pls stop this sick and foolish decision and save and conserve this beautiful area.

90 days notice for 7 businesses to close is unacceptable.

This decision by the JIA is absolutely wrong!

This is unethical , it may be “legal “ but to deprive business’ that have served the community for so long of ANY options to save their hard earned business , simply stating we gave no lease renewal and so sorry for you its your problem . This is cause alone to consider other options for real people with real life needs that depend on the income . Secondarily all of the business owners will lose any possibility of selling their business as it now has NO value , being suddenly ousted you cannot sell them and recoup any funds to rebuild it . Simply unacceptable terms . We in the community need to support our local small business will not stand by and see real families be stripped of their dreams and income for a so called better look to update for tourism . It’s at the expense of the livelihood of these loyal tenants and contributors to the community . Give them a fair shake and buy out their business if this is the only way to “upgrade” .

As a business owner. I couldn’t imagine losing my baby. Being an entrepreneur is like raising a child. It takes time, dedication, and hard work, and you could either be successful at raising it or fail at it. Chances are you will end up being successful and to have that taken from you is heartbreaking. So I will be supporting this and I will come back and pay for this. I work for Sony and I have been here while traveling through Brunswick, St Simons, and Jacksonville and I have sat outside a little house with a beautiful and exquisite art gallery and caught my breath. This is a peaceful place I couldn’t understand why anyone would do something like this.

Umm, excuse me!! My mom lives here and visits around the historic district! I am absolutely appalled to the thought of them even doing such a thing. Me and my friends and colleagues Atriel & Cameron go here all the time and his grandmother Cheryl Hart works in Just By Hand. I have been there once and I absolutely loved that shoppe. I AM UPSET IS LESS THAN I CAN SAY! I AM PISSED! I don’t know what I’d do without The Sweets Shoppe, and The Island House. It’s my home away from grinding on music. This is making me cry right now. I can’t finish my feelings on this phone rn.

This unconscionable action speaks volumes about JIA’s true agenda… make more money at the expense of Jekyll’s original mission-to be a nature-based park available to ALL Georgians.
