Stop Ousting of Pier Road Historic District Shops in Jekyll Island

These shops mean so much to residents, and are a delight to the many visitors who come and just can’t wait to see what they have !! SAVE OUR SHOPS !!

This was not a classy way to “go in a different direction “. It should have been much more upfront and leaseholders should have been given at least 6 months to a year and/or a chance to change direction along with the new ideas.

Please take action to extend or renew the leases. As it stands, the shops will have to be closed prior to Christmas, probably even before Thanksgiving as the certified letter demands possession be returned stripped of all fixtures and merchandise, which would mean the shops will not be “open” until Dec 31, but will have to close much sooner. The shop owners are losing their businesses and inventory in one fell swoop. We visited Jekyll and the pier road shops for 20 years before becoming residents 3 years ago. We support the shops and believe it is cruel and short sighted of JIA to close them down.

There’s shops are the only reason we come to the island when we visit. The independent stores, with the personal touches, cannot be replaced by mass owned places. Please allow them to renew their leases!

Why are you doing this to Independent businesses. Are you trying to create another fake village like the one next to the Westin? Take me back to 1959. I miss the nostalgia greatly.

Please direct the JIA to reverse its decision the evict the Pier Road shop businesses. They are an essential part of the island charm as well as its history.

Please save the Jekyl Island historic shops. One of the best parts of the island is the historic area.

The JIA is acting as a dictator.

We fully support the effort to maintain the shops on Jekyll Island. We think it’s very unfair what is taking place.

Do the right thing JIA.

This is nothing short of a tragedy,as a small business owner this is sad to witness!!

We have always enjoyed the shops as part of our visit to the historic district. We are members of the society and visit often, most recently attending one of the talks with the historic people. I see no reason to get rid of these shops and think it will decrease visits to the area.

This is wrong! By forcing these shops to close, you are further destroying the history of Jekyll Island. This is what visitors and residents love , the charm and beauty. Stop destroying it ! No one wants or needs another Myrtle Beach.

Go away. We love our Historic Shopping!!!

State action is offensive and shameful

Please understand this is hurting the shop owners. There should be a different option.

I have always enjoyed visiting the shops on Jekyll Island in the historic district and made many friends there. Please work with these people and let their shops stay open that they have worked to build up for years!

We love the Pier Road shops as well. They fit in nicely with the historic feel of the area. The JIA wording for future use of the shops is vague in the extreme which is a red flag.
