Jekyll used to be my favorite place. My in-laws owned a home on the island for 40+ years until recently. Jekyll has been slowly turning into another high priced out of reach island. It’s losing its charm..sad.

The Pier Road Shops are one of my favorite areas to visit on THE ISLAND.
I love to read all of the signs in front of each place everytime I go and the shops have a variety of wonderful items.
Please leave the shops as shops.

Stop turning Jekyll Island into another high priced tourist destination. Jekyll Island is supposed to be the the average Georgian. You are erasing the history of the island and replacing it with horrible hotels and shops that are a dime a dozen.

The draw to Jekyll Island has always been the laid back, non-commercialized environment that magically brought you back to a time that was simpler and less stressful. I would hate to see the local knowledge, charm and friendliness of the shop owners and operators falling to the wayside of commercialization and having everything under the control of the JI Authority. Please don’t be in such a hurry to modernize and drag the nostalgia right out of the island and keep what has worked for decades alive and well, so you don’t lose all the repeat and new visitors that come to JI for it’s beauty, Southern charm and quaint shops.

The little privately owned shops within the JI Club property are what provides the atmosphere and enhances that Southern charm feel to the nostalgic times of old. In this world of high speed internet and needing to have everything now, it is refreshing to have a private owner who has invested their time and money into shops that slow down the fast pace of life back to a simpler time where relationships mattered equally with the quality of their merchandise at a fair price.

These shops need to remain to lure tourists to the area. Without them, visitors will decrease measurably !! The livelihood of all involved is important. Do NOT take these shops out of the Jekyll Island way of life.
