Stop Ousting of Pier Road Historic District Shops in Jekyll Island

Save the shops! We love Jekyll Island!

I don’t understand why this is happening. It doesn’t seem fair to the store owners to close down their businesses with only 4 months notice. Especially with the amount of time and money these people have invested in their stores. I hope that the JIA will reconsider their decision.

It would be real shame to see this history destroyed. It’s part of the allure of Jekyll Island

The shops/stores need to remain open. Tourist and residents of Jekyll Island enjoy perusing these places and purchasing unique gifts. Please consider keeping these places opened.

Great loss to Island. Without the shopping areas there is no reason to visit the Island

Commissary items are unique and not available elsewhere.

I suppprt the people who have supported the island through good and bad times. Enough with the improvements. There have been enough changes done to the island.

Not only is it short sighted on the part of Jekyll Island Authority, it is insufficient time for a small business to move. Shame on them.

We love Jekyll Island, including patronizing the shops and simply sitting contemplatingly in this special space. Please don’t change our precious destination, which we strive to visit annually from Iowa.

If the JI Authority wanted change they should have worked with the shop owners first. Evicting them should have been their last resort and if that happened they should have been given more than 100 days.

We have loved these shops for years,they are a part of who we are.

Visiting the shops is one of favorite things we enjoy when visiting Jekyll Island!

This was a shocking and saddening announcement. These shops are just as much a part of the Jekyll Island experience as the beautiful coast. My family has enjoyed years of visiting there, our children have grown up with this place being a yearly tradition, and the shops in the historic district are always the first stop. This is a horrible decision and I ask on behalf of thousands of others who feel the same way that these plans be reversed. This is NOT the time for changes, we love each and every one of these businesses and they are a fundamental part of the charm of the island. These business owners have poured their hearts into Jekyll and this is a contemptible move that goes beyond any reason but greed and power.

We look forward to visiting these shops every year when we visit. Truly disheartening that this is happening.
