Stop Ousting of Pier Road Historic District Shops in Jekyll Island

TELL ME IT ISNT TRUE

Stop the madness- keep the charm and uniqueness on Jekyll Island & do NOT close the shops in the historic district. I live in Cleveland, Ohio & treasure our semi annual vacations to Jekyll. Our family, friends & dogs have been coming to Jekyll since the early 80’s. Much has changed and improved but closing the shops is a big mistake. You are turning Jekyll into Hilton Head Island - the historic shops fit with their location on the island & promote local artists works, foods & souvenirs distinct to southeast GA. The shop-owners are kind, knowledgeable & true ambassadors to Jekyll - many times they have shared fun facts about the island & places to visit on the island. Please stop with the new direction on Jekyll Island for once & keep Jekyll true to its original charm & charisma.

Please don't close shops

Places like Jekyll island need small businesses. Mom and pop shops are the backbone of the American economy. The fact that the shops are in the historic district helps teach history while allowing many wonderful small business to thrive. This shouldn’t be on a petition.

It is unacceptable to evict these businesses without telling them and all Jekyll Island residences what the JIA intends to do with this area.

We love coming to the shops! Especially the commissary! And the cats are precious too Keep things the same - it’s charming!

Really? Trying to squeeze the unique shop owners so the JIA can NOW prosper in how they use these spaces! The small shop owners have worked for the years prior to Jekyll becoming popular!

I have been coming to Jekyll every year for 37 years, and have always loved the shops on pier road. Please don’t close them

I have owned a home on Jekyll Island for years and am quite concerned by the continued lack of transparency exhibited by JIA in its business dealings through the years. The citizens of Georgia, in particular, Jekyll Island deserve better.

What stinks is that no explanation was given!! Just plan bad business!!!!

Track the Money.

Governor Kemp: Please take action to stop JIA’s unjustifiable way of handling this issue. These shop owners deserve better from your office. They are a vital part of retail offerings available to tourists and visitors. Shame on JIA. How can you trust them now? I wish Jones-Hooks was still director. He would have not allowed this to happen under his watch.

Save our Pier Road shops!

WHY?

Has a resident of Brunswick I am very upset by what appears as back room deals. Shady politics has no place in Brunswick.

We love the historic shops

My grandfather has had his store for as long as I can remember. I am now 23, please don’t do this to Jekyll. These stores and the people that have owned them have been there forever, please don’t take their lives and income away from them. The stores there are historic, and they deserve to be there.

We want the shops to stay with the current owners!
