I am very concerned about this situation. I have enjoyed patronizing the shops for years. Losing Jekyll Books was a blow but to lose the rest feels like a kick to the head. I am very concerned about Marty's future, too. Whatever the vague plans are for the future do not justify destroying these people's businesses.

Please take notice of people’s lives and the shops that people love to visit on the island, continuing change will take away what built this Georgia Jewel

I’ll leave off the expletives.
Could JI possibly be looked at as the quaint and quiet treasure it is and be governed as such, and not as to ‘how much can we make, to what degree can we exploit it’ attitudes?? Surely some level of greed or management showmanship is involved. Tried that some years ago with a very aggressive campaign to remake the island into something that most folks who love as we do cannot tolerate.
Now let’s have some compassion for the businesses and owners who are getting nothing less than shafted with this. PLEASE reconsider or overrule this!!!

The JIA’s actions are reprehensible. These individual businesses have operated in the Historic District, providing character, caring service, and a personalized experience for visitors. The JIA should cease immediately asking for the comments of concerned private citizens and employees to be taken down on social media. The JIA is taking its authority to unbelievable extremes!

My husband owned a small business in a small town. This action sounds illegal as well as despicable. What are the people who lease the businesses / property saying about this? Are they pushing for upscale( read that expensive)Stores?
Have they done a study on what the tourists want?

The shops have been on Pier Road as long as I have been coming to Jekyll. Since 1973 always shop there it will be a shame to close them. You are dealing with those to be unemployed and that is not good! Upset

To remove the shops and gift stores along the walk coming to the Jekyll Island Club is the most irrational and Asinine move made by The Jekyll Island Authority.
Visitors come to Jekyll Island to move back in time to 1910 not for upscale ambiance. The removal of these shops will remove a part of the family atmosphere that we come here for.
Our family comes to this Island for peace, history, friendships, and relaxation. We can not support the action of removing these shops. This decision will be a move that will hurt the islands embrace of history.

Small, quaint and unique are what draw people to Jekyll. Ruin that, and watch and see how fast your economy tanks. Stop letting northern transplants run things!

The gift of Jekyll Island to the people of Georgia seems to be being taken away from them by a small group.

Been coming for 50 years.
Would be a shame and a downright miserable action by the authority to close them.
