The decision by JIA is both fair not just and should be reversed.

Please extend the leases and give the shop owners time to either close out stock or take part in the new vision. This should be participative. You might learn something from the people who have been operating businesses there for many years.

The shops draw people to the Historic District. Plus, they were not given enough time

These shops are one of the things I enjoy when I visit the island every year. They are unique and one of a kind, very much unlike what you find in the main shopping area.

Do you understand the PR nightmare you are going to cause for youself by forcing these veteran islanders out of their businesses?? You couldn’t give them temporary trailers the other businesses had while the shops were being built? Or included them in the design for the new shops considering this sounds like it has been planned for awhile. Shame on all of you.

Please keep the shops open. As a Jekyll Island homeowner, I value their existence. .

. The ouster of the shops in the historic district is awful. There are not enough adjectives to describe the sadness in my heart when I first read about it a couple weeks ago. Totally insensitive to the devoted shop owners, the life blood of Jejyll and the reason so many people come to and remember JI. The action is absolutely heartless and in total disregard for the dedicated shop owners who are to lose their livelihoods. . Absolutely no way to treat anyone. And no way to justify it. It defies articulation! No doubt it will go down in history as one of the most egregious, heartless, tactics ever taken in the history of the island. . There will be a movie in the History Center “ The Sliminess of The 2023 Ouster of the Historic District Shop Owners.” Friends don’t ambush friends. This is an ambush. Heartless, despicable, repugnant ambush. .

These shops mean so much to not only the locals, but to the guests of JI too. Keep these shops and support the local economy!!!

I am shocked that this is happening. I visit Jekyll often and love to visit the shops along the historic district. Please rethink this decision as I feel it will negatively affect the island!

As a long time multiple homeowner, I find this action deplorable. This is definitely an overreach by a bureaucracy that is harmful to private enterprise. I would respectfully ask the Board to overturn this terrible decision. I am also reaching out to my local State Senator and Representative to notify them of this irresponsible action.

These shops are one of the best parts of Jekyll Island! These owners deserve better than how Jekyll Island Authority is treating them!

I have been coming to Jekyll Island for as long as I can remember, and one of my favorite things has always been visiting the little shops in the Historic District. To imagine them gone, or possibly replaced by generic tourist shops, would take away so much of Jekyll's charm.

This is a sad day for our island when small businesses are not being recognized for their contributions to our local community.
