From a parent who has a child in Grade 1 and 2 EFI and is experiencing first hand the benefit of the current immersion program, these changes would do a major disservice to future students in the program.

Ruining a good French Immersion program simply to shave a couple million dollars off a deficit is a travesty.

Do not make the proposed changes - listen to your frontline workers who are telling you this WILL NOT benefit children.

What are you doing to these children who need consistency and security of one teacher and operating in a language they already know. You will be creating mega problems that will have to be addressed down the road. Listen to the advise of experienced educators like myself who have the interest of these children at heart.

My son, who is 3, has a severe speech disorder. He is unable to say more than a few words in English; a half-French/half-English kindergarten program would be awful for him.

Programs are put in place based on research, evidence, pilot programs, and phased-in to accomodate schools and improve in the following years. This sudden implementation with lack of consultation is a rush job driven by additional funding as the priority, not the long-term repercussions on our children's success.

What will happen to children who are struggling just learning English.
I've volunteered trying to help these kids learn French. They are just lost.... I think
you need to think this through a bit more.

I am not sure how you can call this "immersion" anymore when you have gone from 100% to 60% for SK and Grade 1 and then 80% to 60% for Grade 2 and 3. And there is no science to back this up. By any stretch of the imagination, this needs not only more consultation but a delay to study what the impact this will have on the program, and outcomes.

These changes should not be put forward without proper evidence of benefits to the students. Cost-savings are usually at a cost to the students. Larger class sizes for JK/SK go directly against what our teachers fought for this fall!

In Ottawa, French is a requirement for success in our federally driven workforce. Our children need a strong foundation early on to have a fighting chance with the strict language requirements.

EFI should have more French, not less! I would like to see SK be 100% French Immersion not 50/50.
