We need to hit the one hundred signature milestone before I submit our formal request for a meeting with the Board of Trustees. Your direct action in bringing this to the attention of other families is necessary to ensure our position is taken seriously during the upcoming review.

As a parent of a child in SK, my hope was that he would get more French from school and not less. By taking away math in French he is missing out on the opportunity of a whole area that I think is important for full language devleopment.

These recommendations are not based on research. In fact, they contradict research that shows the benefits of French immersion, even for children with learning difficulties. I do not support this initiative.

Given the one-sided information, no other options discussed, public consultations not being accessible (i.e. on weekend, providing child-care, etc.), very short timelines, I can only say no to these changes.

If I wanted my child to have over a third of the day in English, I would put my child in an English program. French immersion allows kids to be bilingual in a mostly Anglophone city. Watering down French immersion would persuade me to apply to the Francophone board for my children.

As an EFI primary teacher for the past 10 years, I believe that the OCDSB's French Immersion program is giving its students the necessary foundation in French to become lifelong communicators in the French language. The more exposure they get at a young age the better.

Early immersion is the only reason why I speak French now and as a result why I have access to many more employment and academic opportunities around the world. Our children should not be deprived of access to their best chance at becoming bilingual.

Keep FI the way it is. It is too important to water it down

The OCDSB can do better and try harder to improve education for all. Parents have a right to choose the type of program that suits their child's needs. I say no to the proposed changes. Keep an English kindergarten option and 100% French instruction in grades 1-3.
