My family and I are new residents to Florida. We came here because of the wildlife and beauty. I have been doing a lot of research regarding phosphate mining and I am in disbelief that permits are still being given to "Mosaic" even after repeated EPA penalties for violating the Clean Water Act. I also believe there is a connection between the depletion of natural phosphate deposits and our uncontrollable algae. No more mining!!

I agree with everyone's comments on the environmental impacts, I have one more thing to add. My extended family owns a farm that will be within 1 mile of the proposed site. They have been on this land for over 200 years. So when this seeps into the ground water and contaminates their wells they will lose their home, thier legacy and their lives.

The Florida phosphate industry has a terrible environmental record. A mine in the New River - Santa Fe River ecosystem would be a travesty.

The unbalanced way in which our policymakers and officials work threaten us, our food and water supply, our wildlife, our oceans, our climate, our planet and therefore our very existence. Their myopic vision in decision making has edged us ever closer the point of no return, placing us all in great peril, and it seems as though the only way that it may end is with our own extinction.

Phosphate mining (Mosaic et al) has historically DAMAGED the health and well being of people exposed to their toxic practices. Not long ago, Mosaic was fined 2 BILLION DOLLARS for their irresponsible disposal of TOXIC WASTE, yet, all many leaders see are dollar signs, NOT what is best for the people. Please do the RIGHT THING and STOP PHOSPHATE STRIP MINING! Enough is enough, do not put profit above the health of the people and land that further phosphate mining will adversely affect.
