What City Council has failed to do again is make the Hard Choices to defund budget items that make no sense. In the liturgical phrase they have done those things whichthey ought not to have done and not done those things which they ought to have doneThey have funded a redundant Human Rights Commission for instance and refused to fund 8 more police officers . The Human Rights Commission has accomplished nothing while I can only think that 8 more officers especially 2 more patrolling the Downtown Mall

stop the meals tax! if the police would pull over the HUNDREDS OF A-HOLES that run red lights daily in this city - you'd see plenty of revenue from that. leave the innocent hard working people alone to eat in peace!

We pay enough to eat in restaurants, you need to put on your thinking caps and come up with other ideas including budget cuts and reduction in benefits to employees.

This tax is unfair! Discourages diners from going out within city limits and taxes a target gruop of businesses. Why should restaurants, food trucks and caterers have to bear the brunt for all types of goods and services.

this truly is unbelievable , are you seriously trying to kill business in Charlottesville ,all this taxing makes prices go up but my check first get bigger yet everything around me gets more expensive please reconsider the meals tax

Operative word 'desires.' Let's take a look at why our budget fell short to begin with.

This is a stupid idea aimed at one business. Why not just increase local sales tax, or property tax? Why? Because there'd be an uproar, that's why.
