I am against any increase in the city's meals tax. When I moved to Charlottesville I was really surprised how high the tax was. I have had visitors who have noticed how high it is and remarked about it.

It will come out of tips, plain and simple. People know what they want to spend and tips are where they can squeeze a little. It really will not affect "white table cloth" places but it will really make a difference in small diners, pizza places where staff can ill afford it.

The council should address the spending problem not raise taxes. We will simply stop going to restaurants in the city. I know that won't help the city now will it?

We cannot afford to eat out as much if the meals tax is raised even higher. This will only hurt local businesses.
