Just listen to to the committee discuss this at https://soundcloud.com/cvilletomorrow/cville-city-council-fy2016-budget -- they have put zero serious thought into it. Come back with a serious proposal and try again city council :(

Let's make Charlottesville livable for all. I have been here my whole life and I am concerned about the affordability of this town becoming farther and farther from my reach and the reach of those around me. Let's think of the citizens of this special community first and find another way. The beauty and abundance of Charlottesville should be able to be enjoyed by all.

I already don't go out to eat much because of the last tax increase. Are you trying to put these restaurants out of business?

I disagree with the idea that this tax will be mostly levied on tourists. One of the best things about being a local in this town is all of the amazing places to eat! Tourists are only a percentage of who frequents restaurants here!

Small business is the backbone of the community yet the insidious intrusion of taxation inching in the marginal difference between existence or demise. Stop the intrusion of just one one more cent. And another cent.

For me this will put taxes paid for city restaurant dining over the tipping point in my own budget, reducing my dining out and hence resulting in shooting-in-foot.

If the tax support oversight of restaurants then so be it but if the tax is for other programs then come up with a better plan to support those.
