A few years ago we were visiting the highlands of Scotland. It struck us that the hills were so bare with only spots of forest here and there, but for the most part- barren. We were told that they once were beautiful dense forests and many times the topic came up about clear cutting. I copied a snippet from article. We need to take heed. This is a real threat: Dore Lake is one of the few areas with a pristine lake and forest.
*********The trees in Scotland were all chopped down ages ago. So long ago, in fact, that no one really knows what the forests even looked like to begin with. Paleoecologists have attempted to reconstruct past ecosystems based on fossilized remains (many of which were preserved in peat bogs) as well as written accounts, but it’s still mostly conjecture.
The earliest farmers arrived in Scotland about 4,000 years ago and began clearing the land. By the time the Romans arrived, over half of all the native forests had already been felled.
Beginning in the 18th century, the Highland forests were exploited, burned and otherwise reduced to a greater extent than ever before.
When the trees were lost, so were the animals. Lynx, wolves, giant wild cattle (known as aurochs), boars, bears, salmon, elk and beavers all thrived here once upon a time.
What we are now left with is a highly degraded ecosystem, unable to successfully regenerate even when left to its own devices. Most all of the arable soil has eroded into the sea. The only sizable patches of forest are mini-plantations of introduced species like Sitka spruce which are unceremoniously clear cut when mature.

This is a scenic area enjoyed by many people. There are other areas to log that would not impact tourism, or the beauty of this region. STOP LOGGING Operations at Michel Point, Sask!!!

I grew up at Dore Lake when the landscaped didn't look ravaged. The last time we went to Dore Lake we were appalled at the devastation of the forrest. The hassle with log trucks was no picnic either as the road condition was horrible.

I am appalled that they are even contemplating cutting along the Michel Point, Tower Beach road and Tower Hill. What a great way to ruin a vibrant environmental area. The deforestation of Tower Hill will flood out the residents and dwellings at Tower Beach Subdivision. The amount of rainfall has increased substantially due to global warming. It will be a mudslide, ruining the beach and the cabins will be worthless. As taxpayers and residents will we be compensated for the devaluation of our property? The company, Sakaw Askiy Management, have left the first 20 Km of Highway 924 in a complete mess. They have done nothing to reforest the area. Wildlife has virtually been decimated. It is not acceptable or good business practice to destroy wildlife habitat. The beauty of Dore Lake lies in the pristine forest and the beauty of living along with nature. I hope Sakaw Askiy Mangement will reimburse us for the value of each of our properties, because they will be worthless after they have clear cut the area.

My family and I have been going there for 8 years due to the fact that it is quiet and natural. We make the 4.5 hr trip every time I'm on days off to camp at the lake. We spend a lot of time there and I would hate to see this happen to a beautiful natural area.

One of the few pristine and beautiful lake areas that I have seen! The devastation and plundering of nature and all the beauty that this area now holds is unthinkable and unbelievable to even comprehend! This is a historical place of refuge to nature and people alike! Stop and think before you create this nightmare and actions that if carried through can never be reversed! Shame on You!
