I lived in MB most of my life. Worked in health care where I had the privilege of caring for a few deaf seniors. Some used sign language. It was a useful way for us to communicate their needs. That was in the 90's. Communication is key in every relationship. We need to as a society practice inclusion with all peoples. To honor each other's differences. Free speech is everyone's right no matter what language they speek

I am hearing, and was born in Winnipeg and a large portion of my family was born deaf. I am signing this is hopes to improve early access to ASL for families, and for improved access to interpreters. ASL is not English. It is its own language and the deaf community its own culture.

My 3 year old son was born deaf, he has cochlear implants but we also sign. Sometimes the noise is to much and off gos the ears. We need access to different languages and different ways to communicate.

Basic communication should be a break for everyone not a privilege. Let’s make the changes that need to be done in the Legislative Government so that everyone has a chance and an ability to communicate.

I was told by an audiologist initially that teaching my daughter ASL would cause delays with her spoken language. That should never happen. We changed providers and got much better support.
