Let's work together to make public land safe for all, especially companion animals.

Public land s should be safe for ALL recreational users not just certain groups. Will irresponsible trappers wake up when a SAR dog is caught?

It is absolutely NUTs that we allow these traps. What has to happen to change this? Does a kid have to get caught in one of these?

Don't anyone worry about the relatively small numbers of signatures on this online petition; there are many more signatures on the original "Safe Public Lands" petition (http://www.petitions.moveon.org/sign/safe-public-lands), and yet many more on paper from this summer's events. We're preparing them all now for delivery to the MN Legislature when it reconvenes in 2015.

Jessica: body-gripping traps are generally hidden from view, and children don't find them and thus aren't harmed by them. If children did find them, they probably wouldn't be interested, and wouldn't trigger them. If they did trigger them, it would generally not be fatal. Dogs, on the other hand, follow the bait and lure by scent, and often run headlong into the traps, where they're generally killed by the traps clamped onto their throats and spines.
