I support this petition fully. Psychiatry is a business. This is the only industry in the world that engages in forced involuntary commitment as its business model, utilizing the power of the Police State to bring it customers. The "Medical" Police State is a violation of the Constitution and individual rights. Unless a person has committed a crime and is therefore a criminal, they cannot be detained by force. In fact, it is Psychiatry that is the criminal here, demanding that individuals be detained by force when no crime has been committed. By the government allowing this to occur, the government is therefore a criminal accomplice to such involuntary commitment and detention. The whole law needs to be struck down in its entirety.

Our "Law Makers" had better move their children, grandchildren and family members out of FL or they will be targeted like the rest of us if this insane and anti-civil rights proposal is passed. Stop this evil enforcement before it's too late.

This is the most ludicrous attack on minors that I've ever heard of! How can a school, or law enforcement do this, or allow this to happen? Why doesnt the child and child's Parent(s)/Guardian have any "rights" in the USA? I know of one who had a minor child that their child's school felt the child was"lethargic." The Dean of Students and School Counselor, of this child called the parent and said this child could not attend school, until the child was medically treated. The parent took their child to a Psychiatrist and was diagnosed with Depression and OCD. The child was treated and returned to school a few weeks later. The child was no longer lethargic...

My 8 year old son was Baker Acted last year (he was 7 then) from school by a school resource office (police). Prior to this day, we were getting our son tested for autism since initial physician thoughts were that our son had Aspergers (part of the Autism Spectrum Disorder). The school staff, aware of this, threatened us with the Baker Act if we didn't medicate him to control his behavior. We refused to do so or consider medication until we got our final diagnosis. They suggested we remove him from school (this is a public school) until he is fit to be in school, again threatening us with the Baker Act. We complied because we were threatened but a month later, we demanded he be back in school - called the district and reported our issues. We still weren't medicating our son. Within a week of his return to school, he was Baker Acted.
We later found out that the school staff broke laws under Civil Rights and IDEA laws prior to my son's Baker Act. All staff still employed. Try going up against a public school system. I have taken my son out of the school and will never put him in another Pinellas County public school or any Florida public school again.
The public school system abuses and uses the Baker Act for their convenience.

I am firmly opposed to the idea of involuntary commitment of children in institutions. We are talking about children here. They need to be helped for real, not drugged or institutionalized.
