My daughter was taken to Bayonet Regional Hospital, has TBI on lots of meds. Had reaction to meds - they Baker Acted her - this was medical issue. And hasn't been examined according to the Baker Act.

My son was taken by the resource officer, after school counselor said he's ok, to lockdown adult facility purely because school was ending and she had a bad day.

1) Parents or legal guardians are notified immediately by the school officials (not the police) BEFORE the police are contacted. No involuntary examination may be initiated without parental approval 2) Parents or legal guardians are told to come to their child's school immediately and get their child and given information on the situation. If no contact at first call - all emergency numbers for the child are called until someone is reached 3) At NO time is a child removed from school premises without parental permission. Parents or legal guardians are to be given the option to take full responsibility for their child and work with the school and police to calm the situation down

School personnel should NOT have this type of authority over school children. There needs to be a better way to handle this type of situation that involves communicating with parents about what is happening. More exposure of this practice should be brought to the attention of parents of school children so changes can be made that are more in reasonable in situations that arise during the course of the school day.

It is horrific that a child can be ripped out of school and carted off to a facility of which the parent has no idea where they've been taken. The scary part is the people making these decisions are NOT qualified to do so. This MUST BE STOPPED!!

It is cruel and traumatic the way they decided to use the baker act, it must be abolished.

Bakers Act is taking the parents right to to decide what is in the best interest of their children. These children are basically drop off at facilities with strangers. Parents are not even informed about what happens behind doors. Children need helps but in the proper way and with parental concern. I am a strong believer of parents and healthcare professional working together, not just taking kids away and sending them to places that looks like prisons.

The parents and doctors the child is seeing should have the first say in the care for a child. It is unlawful imprisonment.

Please stop this from happening to our children. It causes irreversible damage to them and their loved ones. And the people that make these calls aren't even qualified to do so.

This bill needs to be reformed or amended to protect the children better. And give rights back to us as parents in this situation.
