Stop Income Testing for Supports for Permanency

We call on Minister Turton and the Government of Alberta to prioritize the well-being of children over cost-cutting measures that have unknown consequences. These children deserve stability, support, and a government that upholds its commitment to their long-term success. My question is, why is the Provincial government targeting the vulnerable sector?

We adopted our three children 10 years ago and the SFP funding was included in our family budget. $180k between 2 full time working parents really isn’t all that much nowadays.

Makes zero sense and not going to be good for kids looking for permanent homes. We adopted 3 and likely would not have been able to afford it even with middle class income. My husband can’t work due to the high special needs and disruption and stress this causes the family. Just such a crazy decision and will have a lasting negative impact on the kids and families

This is absolutely ridiculous if you take away funding.

Parents spend significant money supporting adopted children. Cancelling the funding that’s been promised is morally wrong putting unnecessary stress on the province’s best families

These supports decrease downstream costs such as increased use of public mental health supports. They should support all families.

Foster children should not be denied government supports based on the incomes of their foster parents. This policy decision is ill-advised and must be retracted.

Please don’t stop supporting these vulnerable children

This is a totally unfair decision to implement income testing for adoptive parents and guardians.Just as supports are not calculated in income because this money is going the children. This will not save the government money but cause much grief for families and children because people will no longer take guardianship adopt. No thought at all went into this. It will cause my family so much financial hardship we will not longer take guardianship if this goes through.

These kids deserve all the help they can get. My brother and sister in law due kinship to two boys who need on going help. Without this help my brother and sister in law could not afford to get them the help they need and deserve. At the end of the day the only ones we are failing is these kids who have already had ppl fail them.

Maybe if you cut some of the HIGH Wages rather than cutting help for the kids and family who needs it!

This cut directly affects an innocent and vulnerable population. These children require more attention, more money, more resources to raise them to be positive functioning members of society as much as possible. At every turn caregivers need to advocate for these kids to the nth degree and having a cut is not the way to go. Think of families with multiple kids, what will happen to sibling groups as income is divided by more mouths to feed?

This is a great program that encourages, and helps many families to adopt children who may say in care permanently otherwise. Every child deserves a forever home, If you take this away you are hurting the kids that need permanent homes, and the families who care for them. This is a terrible thing to do, cutting funding to our children is not the way to go.

I fully support this as it directly impacts my family.

The entire permanency program is a scam to lower the costs for the government. I regret having agreed to it and we should have stayed with fostering. Social Services pushed us into it. We would have gotten better support our rate with permanency is about 1/2 of foster care, there is no recreation fund, no vacation fund and no KM payments for the kids. This is a terribly bad deal for us. And now they are putting income testing in as well. I hope that a lot of family will protest and terminate their permanency agreement to send a clear message to the government that kind of treatment is totally unacceptable!!!

Children are our future and we have to start making sure that we have a future by doing things right.

I have been a foster parent since 1990 , And have put a lot of time and effort and my life savings into trying to ensure the physically and sexually abused children that we have had in our home to give them some idea of what a normal life could be like for them and to keep them from becoming a burden for government agencies in the future.many good foster homes have fallen by the wayside having not received adequate financial help from the government departments assigned to help the foster families do a proper job in taking care of the children in their care.I fear many more foster home will quit due to the increased burden in financially raising the children who come into care.
