Return Ankeny Community School District Students and Teachers to the Classroom for FULL-TIME, On-Site, In-Person Learning

We go to Urban Air, the Apple Orchard, or Big Creek State Park in the afternoon of every virtual day. After 2 hours of online, they're done. Now, if they could put the curriculum in the Minecraft world, we might get some buy-in and even collaboration.

Because Ankeny could not offer 5 full days a week in-person instruction, we chose to unenroll our 3 kids. I am a former ACSD substitute teacher and am homeschooling our younger two children along with a friend’s child. Our oldest is enrolled at Iowa Connections Academy. He is an AELP student and is not being challenged enough. He needs the gifted ed program support every day! All of our kids have shown signs of emotional distress from not seeing their friends-some of whom are doing virtual learning and their parents won’t let them play with other kids. The fear needs to end and we need all kids back at school every day!

I do not feel like they are learning on their virtual days. I fear they are falling behind.

This is not sustainable for working parents. If my child can be in school 3 days a week, she can be in school 5 days a week. The quality of her lessons has greatly diminished as well, and seems quite repetitive to last year.

If our children can go to school three days a week then they can go five days a week.

There is no science behind the current method that would provide any protection that could not be afforded with full time attendance.

We need more structure in school and 2/2.5 days a week in-person is not enough time for students to learn and gain knowledge from educators vs teaching themselves on the virtual days.

School is essential! Kids needs to be in school full time.

This is so not working for either of my kids. Teachers assigning things on Sunday to be done Monday is setting them up to fail. Plus my special needs kid is having a hard time understanding what needs to be done.

4 grandchildren in grades K-11. They need their classes, activities, friends.

Why is my child that is least likely to suffer complications if gets COVID being punished the most.

We need to base this decision on facts and actual numbers, and both of those are telling us we should be back in school full time. We need full transparency from the ACSD administration and school board, and we are not getting it at this time. I am disappointed that so many involved are making decisions based on what seems to be personal or political reasons. Show us that you are following the true numbers and guidelines!!

My 2 children attended Westwood...we opted for private school for this year because we believed our children were not going to get the education they needed if they were only in school 2.5 days a week.

We chose to enroll in a private school due to hybrid plan.

My grand kids deserve a full time in person education. Let’s get them back to school so they can be a successful student in the future.
