Calling general strike (hartal) is a democratic right for a citizen or a political or labor organization in a democratic country. Bangladesh is a prosperous democratic country with a very bright future. Often political parties leverage hartal for their own political motive which does not necessarily help the citizens of Bangladesh. Enforcement of hartal through violent methods is a common tactic in Bangladesh practiced by political parties. Very often this is against the will of the people. Hartal destroys our economy and the hope of a economically sovereign Bangladesh. This petition is to request political parties not to use hartal as a political tool.
