The new Federal Government is setting up a "root and branch" review of Australian Competition Law. This petition calls on the Government to include in its review an investigation into the use of: a) credit card fees, b) service fees c) administration fees and d) delivery fees by Australian event ticketing companies. I aim to collect over 10,000 signatures. The petition will then be sent to the new Minister for Small Business, The Hon Bruce Billson MP (the Minister in charge of overseeing the competition inquiry). Background: Ticketek (owned by Nine Entertainment Co.) and Ticketmaster (owned by US company, Live Nation Entertainment Inc.) have a stranglehold on the Australian event ticketing market. In the last decade, the Australian event ticketing market has seen a sharp moved away from box office sales toward online sales. Ticketek and Ticketmaster have taken full advantage of this trend and event-goers are getting ripped off. These two companies, which dominate the domestic market, are forcing Australian customers to pay "service/delivery fees" and "credit card fees" on top of the price of their tickets. Even where a customer buys their tickets from a box office or elects to collect them from a venue, they must still pay a "service/delivery fee" of up to $8. If you add in the credit card fee, customers are paying an additional $10-12. What for, you may ask? Really, it is for nothing. Let's be honest. The only reason Ticketek and Ticketmaster are doing this is because they can get away with it. If you think this is unfair, please sign my petition. Thank you.
