Hello Everyone,
My name is Alexis, and I am currently a Master’s level student in Keuka College’s occupational therapy program. Recently, I have taken a great interest in advocating for elderly adults that find themselves in situations of abuse, neglect, or exploitation. Currently, New York State does not have any laws in place for mandated reporting of elder abuse, neglect, or exploitation. I believe this is a change that desperately needs to be made. Bill A1505 is a NYS bill that would enact the Elder Abuse Protection Act. This Act would make reporting abuse, neglect, or exploitation mandatory for all professionals working to care for elderly adults over the age of 62. My grandmother went thru this and it was heartbreaking. About time there was a law to help them.
