Marcellus Shale drilling is devastating to the environment. It destroys land and poisons wildlife. Toxic chemicals are pumped into the air, land, and water, contaminating the environment. Property values can decrease by as much as 2/3 (66%) after a gas well is drilled in the area. That means if your neighbor decides to have a well put on property adjacent to yours, your $250,000 home is now worth as little as $85,000. It sounds drastic, but cases like this are documented throughout the country. The bottom line is that once a well is drilled in an area, the area is destroyed. Wells are contaminated, home values are wrecked, and the air and water are filled with toxins. You can't move because your house is worth next to nothing, but you don't want to stay because of health concerns/noise/smell/pollution, etc. You will be a prisoner in your own home. This is why residents of Cecil Township, PA must stand together and make our voices heard! Together we can rally and show our local legislature that we DO NOT want Marcellus Shale drilling in our area! New York has done it, the city of Pittsburgh has done it, now we must too, before it is too late and the land we love is destroyed. By signing this petition, you are asking our local officials to ban Marcellus Shale drilling (and fracking) in Cecil Township, PA.

I have been reviewing the accounts shared in the comments section regarding the potential impact on local property values. These personal stories confirm the urgency of our mission to advocate for the health of our township. I am currently gathering documents to present to the local planning board to ensure our concerns are properly recorded.

My family has lived in Cecil for 30 years and I won't let them ruin our air and water just so some corporation can make a buck. Stop this now.
