My daughter wanted to apply to the Bristol Old Vic for a theatre studies course and was horrified to learn that they wanted a fee up front.

When I was auditioning many many years ago I had to choose just 1 school because it was all I could afford. With all my eggs in one basket I had no chance. Now my daughter is auditioning and I’ve already spent £200 on fees, travel and accommodation; we still have 2 more to go. Dadas and scholarships and loans are no use when only students with money can even get to the auditions.

The TV is full of well-funded dramas featuring talented actors but what about the auditions for stage school being open to all.

Very little has changed, in fact I believe actors from working class backgrounds are rarely given breaks & the 'posh set' still grab majority of parts over their peers. The industry is geared up to reflect a period not recognised by ordinary folk?

Having to pay a fee for an audition is a disgrace. It has gone on since the beginning and it's time ot was stopped. It excludes so many from the possibility of applying.

As a drama student in college, I think it’s absolutely outrageous that I have to pay for transport, accommodation AND audition fees as well just to make things harder. I’m skint as it is but I won’t give up my dream just for audition fees.
