It’s very unfair to expect actors to find these amounts of money to pay for auditions. This charge needs to be scrapped immediately

This is a very important issue , otherwise applying for auditions at drama and dance schools is a deterrent for those who face financial barriers . The audition fees should definitely be scrapped to avoid elitism. Also, for those potential students not living in London or the North ( where there are prestigious dance and drama schools ) the travel expenses can also be a barrier .

RADA is thee worst , they hold auditions throughout ALL their holidays, ignoring auditions talking over them making teas and coffees sending all 20 of you back into a waiting area with REJECT stamped on your forms , meanwhile the next 20 hopefuls are being shipped in! It is all about famous actors sons and daughters who pay high fees privately. After that i cancelled ALL but 1 Auditions, Rose Bruford... and got in !

I never realised that auditions require a fee, disenfrachiseing the poor. Even if the fee is £30 that's the food money or heating or clothes. I think charging fees is disgraceful.

As someone from a working class background with an MA in Modern Drama Studies I believe that the Arts should be open to everyone and unfair costs should not be used to prevent those who do not have money from following a career for which they are suited

Glad to hear you are taking up this issue. However in 2018 it deeply I am saddened there is still so much inequality. Which infiltrates and effects all areas of life eg gun crime. When are politicians going to invest in working class lives in a sustained manner.

Brian Cranston had absolutely no business to vaunt the Tories about their support of the performing arts which are currently being cut back in schools. The Tories evidently deem all the arts as a luxury rather than a necessity for defining our ingenuity and humanity.

Audition fees are completely indefensible and an unlawful method of raising money for the drama schools. It is a scam and the schools prosecuted.

It is vital to address unfairness and elitism at career 'entry points' - the potential loss of talent occurs in other educational selection procedures too - but if we address injustice 'one day at a time' we can make progress!
