I recently got a place at drama school but am not struggling to pay fees for the upcoming year. If I didn't have to pay for my auditions this mightn't have been an issue.

In no other next step in education do you have to pay this much for an interview. Bearing in mind it’s £40-50 (minimum) per school drama school you audition for. Meaning on average you’ll spend £250 or so per year on fees and that’s just to get your foot in the door! That’s not including train fares, food, accommodation etc. These fees need to be at the very least hindered. You’re also advised to audition for as many schools as possible but how can that be if it’s going to cost you an arm and a leg to get there?

I am signing this as it is ridiculous to expect working class performers to get anywhere in this industry by charging them at audition level. Universities dont charge to audition, neither should drama schools.

It’s very important that this change happens. It will allow certain barriers to vanish for performers from low income family’s who can’t always facilitate an extra £30 - £50 on auditions. Especially if they don’t get in to the institution as well.

Any fee for an audition is a ripp-off. I auditioned for many schools in the 80s, and it was happening and strongly contested. Schools "admin cots" are already covered by the fees and grants they receive. They should not be charged for audition.

The fees for auditioning and for studying in theatre schools are completely ludicrous and is completely pushing the working classes out of being able to attend (or even contemplate attending) theatre school, and it needs to stop.

I agree absolutely with Tom it's a disgrace when you consider how much talent has come from the working class in the past and how much the country has benefited from their output.

It's hard enough for working class youngsters to find out what and where drama/music schools are (school teachers often seem only to know about uni and generalist fe colleges), without the scandal of having to PAY for auditions!
