Common sense for the Common Good.

The public display of, at least, implicit endorsement of power, principalities and dominions is not appropriate on a building purporting to be Christian. Remember what Jesus about the domain of his kingdom during cross examination while on trial for his life. You can look it up.

By Baptism, our allegiance is first and foremost to the God of Life. It's shameful to conflat the US flag, or any flag, with that ultimate relationship. In the name of God, remove the flag from the national shrine (and, if I might add, all of our churches).

The symbol of our Faith is the cross not the flag.

As long as children are put in cages and strangers are not welcomed, DO NOT FLY US FLAG, OVER God's sanctuary.

In light of Catholic Social Teaching, and our government's refusal to support its basic precepts, it is heretical to have this flag on a house of faith.

Will the church ever stop participating with empire building?

The U.S. flag on the Basilica is a pledge and dedication to the country of the flag, and a renunciation of the Church's stated values and mission.

Given the atrocities of the US these days on immigration, climate change, abortion, the death penalty, among other ways of violating Catholic Social Teaching, this display of the flag is wrongheaded.

My Friends, The Imperial Flag of the World-Wide Empire of the United States should have No Place draped on top of a House of Worship and the Prayers of Millions echoing within it's Sanctuary! What ever good it has done around the Globe has been overwhelmed and overshadowed by the Vastness of it's Greed and Destructive Power exercised everywhere. With nearly 800 military installations globally and having driven a reign of death since post World War II, America has slaughtered and murdered over 20 million men, women, children and babies unborn (conservative estimate)! We, Americans, have laid waste to whole societies and regions from Guatemala and Vietnam (Cambodia & Laos) to Central America and most recently the Middle East! NOW, America is on the path to destabilize the Earth itself with the destructive ability to consume all of nature including the 'Rainforests' and the Creatures of all Oceans! America and all other destructive and war making nations have No Shame! Thich Nhat Hanh, The Vietnamese Buddhist Monk has said many times that America has Never asked for Forgiveness for it's Global Crimes! Yet, because of Faith in Yahweh, our Creator, we Cry Out! Because of FAITH we PROTEST and we refuse to accept! We Cry out for a world that is not acting on behalf of Justice for All Beings! We beg Religious Leaders everywhere to raise their voices, to take a stand on holy ground and be willing to truly follow in the footsteps of Jesus of the Gospels and human history!! We Beg You to RISK your LIVES for the sake of Every One and Every Thing! After reading this, Please add your name to petition Bishop Francis, Leader of the Catholic Church to take down this Flag! Friends, Open Your Hearts on behalf of the Children of Future Generations!

"The old comfortable arrangements between church and state are helpless to generate newness…. The peace of Christ, it goes without saying, is not won by such complicity." -Dan Berrigan, 1971

And inside, Jesus and the Apostles portrayed as blue-eyed blondes is cultural racism. A complete contradiction as to how they really looked. Did they raise more money for construction making them “white”? Who made the decision to putting up that enormous flag? Same people???

This flag is a sign of supremacy. It does not mean what it once did. It does not belong on our shrine.

Religious freedom means freedom to worship without appeal to national symbols. We pray for our country and give thanks to God for it. The church is not a place for national symbols but the symbols of God.
