As followers of Jesus, we must follow the way of the nonviolent cross, which the US military does not. Please, for the love of our Mother Mary, for the love of our Lord Jesus, and for the love of God, take down that flag.

Kathy Boylan's petition is right on. National symbols should have no place on any cathedral or Catholic Church. We are the Catholic Church not a church of any state. As Dorothy Day said, "We are un-American, we are Catholics." This display is even worse than the cathedral in SyracuseNY which gives equal prominence to the US flag and the Papal flag on its front wall.

No Catholic ("universal") church building in any country should have a national flag inside or outside. Don't mix politics with religion, please. Historically and presently, this causes confusion in the less well-educated who only follow perceived human leaders instead of Christ. The established "catholic" church aught to know better by now.

Flagism is contrary to the Gospels. The flag is subordinate to the cross, always. National flags have no place in or on our churches.
