I study acting at Birmingham Ormiston Academy- and constantly hear horror stories about funding for vocational schools. Hopefully, we can change something and get our voices heard

The expressive arts, including drama, music, fine art, dance and photography are the lifeblood of our nation and our identity. From Shakespeare to Danny Boyle, via every other author, artist, actor, comedian, playwright, sculptor, architect, rock band, director, dancer, composer, journalist, choreographer… the expressive arts contribute to how the world sees us. The creative industries are vital to our economy. According to UNESCO the UK is the world’s largest exporter of cultural goods. This is achieved with a tax payer investment which is 0.1 percent of the recent HBOS bailout. Not only that, with this tax payer investment we generate more economic activity than tourism, and we do this without a bonus culture, and without a ‘talent drain’. 6.2% of the UK’s local income (GVA) comes from the creative industries, the arts provide over 2m jobs and are mentioned by 8 out of 10 tourists as a reason for their visit.
Now honestly as dramatic as I and many others may make the lack of funding sound, the truth is we are most likely through the worst of it. With a new government and Michael Gove overlooking justice, I imagine we will see many changes to education in the coming years. Especially in the Arts. However petitions such as these are important in showing that people do care, and by signing it you further ensure that not only the Arts but other subjects require the funding they require such as PE and Citizenship. Both of which are arguably neglected more so than the Arts.

If you're going to cut Art, you might as well cut English as well, I mean English is just looking a poetry and shakespeare and understanding the art of why it appeals and works and what makes it great. Yeah lets just scrap English because its just like those other Arty classes. Honestly for crying out loud we need to appreciate and Educate Art to continue to understand our world..

i auditioned for boa for ks4 and unfortuntly didn't get accepted but I have recently auditions again for boa for post 16 and I finally got offered a place at boa,so boa is where I am going next year. Boa is an amazing school and young people shouldn't be penalised just over money

These cuts need to stop. The Wiltshire government have decided to completely get rid of the Wiltshire Music Service meaning no county music lessons, orchestral and choir groups and loosing many great teachers. It's such a shame since I have only just joined Youth Orchestra and I am loving it so much! I really wish it would carry on after September, but at the moment it looks like it won't.
