When I went to school in the the 50's and 60's we had no standardized tests, teachers taught and we listened. Some kids failed because they didn't put in the work. This hasn't changed except more kids today don' t want to put in the work and parents don't push them. Common core needs to stop -let the teachers teach not be dictated to teach the way the gov't of new york wants!! Ours kids need teachers that understand their needs not the gov't needs and wants!!

Common Core doesn't help students. If your child needs your help at home with Math you can't help because you weren't taught the Common Core way even though you arrive at the same answer & your child is able to understand the way you did it.

Education is so much more than testing. When I look back on my education, I don't dwell on the IOWA tests or Regents. I think about my 3rd grade teacher who inspired me to become a writer, and the countless teachers who helped me become a stronger individual, who inspired me and helped me grow as a leader and build confidence. These skills are what are important to succeed in life. Let's unite to stop NY State from harassing our teachers and let's come up with better solutions (including teachers in the process) to improve our education system today.

Its because it doesn't make sense! You know what the Common Core Standards are? it a government hostile take over of the Education system. Granted there was plenty wrong with the Education system in New York City. For the life of me I couldn't understand why NYC had so many failing schools. I agree that something had to be done. But the Common Core isn't the answer! Kids are confused and miserable and so are the teachers! I can recall so many teachers that I had the pleasure of learning from growing up. Teachers that I looked up to,who made me feel like family; teachers who help shape the course of my life. And my son will never experience having that connection with his teachers, he will never look back and remember any particular educator.Why? BECAUSE THE COMMON CORE STRIPS THE TEACHERS ABILITY TO DO WHAT THEY WERE TRAINED TO DO WHICH IS TO TEACH! TO INSPIRE, TO ENCOURAGE THEIR STUDENTS IDEAS AND CREATIVITY!!!The Common Core is disturbing our children's ability to learn in a way they feel comfortable learning. NO TWO CHILDREN LEARN A LIKE!!!!
