We've been doing things the same way for so long. Sometimes change is in order but here is not one of those times! Don't fix something that isn't broken and bring back the self esteem of parents and their children!

Gov. Cuomo, please STOP this marketing plan known as Common Core Learning Standards from taking . over education in NYS. It is ad for our teachers, our children and for education. Be that "lobbyist for students" you claimed to be in 2012!

My daughter can do large scale differential equations in her head but is being told she is "failing" math because she does not understand the CC way to do this. What kind of sense does that make?
This is OBSRUD and has been proven time and time again to be a broken system. How much more time and money do we have to pump into an already broken system?
I know NYS received millions in grants for this program - but it failed. Time to stop pumping more money into it...it failed. Reversing back to the old method will cost us virtually nothing and will not result in psychological distress and abuse of our children.

This is not the way to teach our kids. Its impossible to help your child with HW if you can't even figure it out! Just look at 1st grade math problems and you'll see that clearly the person must have been on crack who developed it! This is about our children ...This has to end.

Our kids will have to carry a pen and paper with them for the rest of their life in order to figure out what 2x3 is. They'll have to sit down and draw an array to get the answer. How ridiculous!

Common Core will decrease the high educational standard that Upstate NY is known for. I can't speak for the city area, but the upstate schools have been the top leaders in public education for a long time. Common Core is a wasted effort as it has no statistical basis to support itself. It disturbing to know that although unsaid, the government would withhold valuable funds to public schools if they don't participate in CC.

I think it is unfair that children need to take the long way around when the short way gets the work done. I would prefer my child to learn as I did fifteen years ago.

It is absurd! There is no creativity left in teaching. The teachers just read word for word from a manual and the poor students are supposed to stay engaged. Having a child that loves to learn hands on and through experience, the common core does not allow for any of that! Everyone learns differently and to expect children to thrive with rigid, nonflexible lessons with absolutely no personalization to them makes me angry! The testing is timed even for Kindergarteners, adding unneeded stress to an already stressful situation! I am extremely against the common core in New York State!!!

CC is an illegal federal overreach. It complicates concepts that don't need complications. All so it can claim to be "rigorous". The federal tracking of children is big brother scary. It is an unproven methodology funded by corporate interests to influence public education so they can receive federal funding with the eventual goal of privatizing public education. It's all about the money. Get rid of it.
