Common Core is about political power and indoctrination; it is NOT about improving educational standards and results.

I do not want common core in our schools

Stop this Common Core strategy NOW! Lets motivate our children, not lower their intelligence! This is not the way to educate the children of America. Perhaps in larger cities this may be the way. But not for us! STOP IT NOW!

Loss of local control, collection of personal data, driven by publishers not by educators. These are just a few of the reasons I am against Common Core.

The best education for Kansas kids should be developed and implemented at the local school level. We don't need a bloated federal department of education to manage our local schools. We need committed and involved parents who want the best schools possible for their children.

I am a PhD student in a mathematically challenging area of research, and the only American in my research group. This is not an unusual situation. In my experience, Americans are rarely found in mathematically intense fields because they lack the necessary mathematical education. In my case, I was fortunate to be homeschooled, following an individualized curriculum. Common Core is the opposite approach--a one-size-fits-all program. Had I been hampered by being forced to follow Common Core, I would not have the skills I have today. Common Core is the opposite of the educational reform that needs to take place in our schools. Students learn best with an individualized approach. Teachers teach best when they are free to respond to the needs of their particular students.

Common Core is another example as a federal intrusion into state affairs. The bottom-line is that it inhibits individual incentive and re-instructs so as to loose deductive reasoning. An example is where a math student now being given common core math instruction takes a test where one question is "Johnny has 12 apples and gives Mrs. Smith 6. How many apples does Johnny now have? The answer for the common core test is "6+6=12"! Now, how can a child develop necessary deductive reasoning with these type of math problems?

As a former teacher, school board member education advocate for the local community, I am opposing what has become a national onslaught against quality local control of our K-12 education system. Martin Owens

The Tenth Amendment to the United States Constitution states: "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people." Since education is not mentioned in the Constitution, it is one of those powers reserved to the states. Thus, states have plenary, or absolute, power in the area of education.

I am an honors college senior in a STEM field. I oppose Common Core because it lowers standards. It is a one-size-fits-all education approach, the opposite of the individualized approach that students need.

If the Feds are interested in educating our children, you can bet there will be some indoctrination involved.

I definitly support local control of education in our school systems.

Kansas Catholics for Academic Excellence supports local control not federal over reach. We believe parents are the first teachers of their children and we also support our teachers. No bureaucrat should have control over what any of our schools teach. The good people of Kansas deserve better and our done with the federal government telling us what to do and spend our hard earned money on. I urge all good citizens of Kansas to stand up and fight for all children!

We as well as other schools have smart kids with good jobs, don't need the governments anti-God in our schools.

Our individual tax dollars go to support public education. We must maintain the right, privilege, and responsibity at the state and local level to determine what and how our children and grandchild are taught. This cannot and should not be determined at the national level through this common core initiative. To do so is an infringement on our individual civil liberities.

Returning control of the public schools to the local school district is critical for our children to have the freedom to learn what they need, individually, not what some group in Washington thinks they need.

Common core has not place in our kids' education!

Stand your ground Push constitutionality of the implementation and watch closely thew garbage they are feeding your child's mind... Interact with your children counter the false teachings and educate through truth and prove to them what they are being taught is wrong.
