Support Local Control of Education in Kansas - Stop Common Core

We have to stop this meddling of our educational system by the Federal Government and "blue" states educational Chairs that want to dumb down our children. Education has gotten progressively worse since I was in school and I wonder how the United States will ever become a world leader again with future generations when their only skills is how to take a test.

Standards for K-12 education should be set at the local level. Keep the Federal Government out of our schools. The bribe money is not worth compromising our kids future by dictating what is or is not taught in the classroom.

As a former teacher, former school board member and parent of two college graduates I am very much opposed to Common Core because of the nationalizing approach to education. Recently I heard former Governor Mike Huckabee state that the original concept established by the Governors Association was NOT intended to be national in scope, but it has gotten away from that the original scope. I was home schooled (unaccredited) all my life. Today, I am a Junior in college at Avila University with a 3.5 GPA studying accounting and management. I am apart of Phi Theta Kappa. I was on the Dean's List at Johnson County Community College (ranked 3rd best junior college in the country). We aren't stupid. We actually have to work for everything we get because we don't get much recognition. Stay out Government. I don't need you to tell me where to go to high school. I'm just as smart if not smarter than one that goes to accredited school. I've already proved that in the classroom.

Stop common core in Kansas.

Local parents, teachers and school boards know best as to what their students need. Local school districts don't need another large expense for testing. Teaching is more important for our students than testing.

This is an aweful power grab by the Federal Goverent that must be stopped!!!

Please return control of the education of Kansas children to the local level.

Just another example of too much gov't. I can't even understand how math is being taught any more when helping my grand-kids and I'm an engineer. Could save a lot of money in education administrative costs by consolidating small districts.

As a retired science teacher, I strongly urge you to vote against "common core". We don't need more government intrusion into our kids' education!

our society is moving in the direction of having tolerance to the point of sameness. No one is allowed a different opinion. We cannot look at all sides of a question in our search for truth. Common core would eventually turn out a society of robot thinkers who cannot have an opinion of their own but all spout the same formula the same answer to any given question America began with a nation who could think for themselves.

Common Core will be the death of our thinkers and doers. It's just bad!

On the surface, coordinating curriculum and outcomes nationally may sound beneficial but many of the less understood tenets of the law (i.e. the mass collection of data on our children - made possible by a the silent elimination of FERPA, the erosion of states rights and the rights of homeschoolers) are unacceptable. I encourage all signers to dig deeper into this issue. the deeper you dig, the worse it gets. Please sign the petition to preserve the rights of Kansans. The goal is 1000 signatures and we need your help!

Common Core is just another way to dumb down our Kids with dumb teachers.

As a pediatric occupational therapist I have experienced first hand the devastation felt by young kindergarteners and their parents as these children fail the unreasonable expectations placed on them at such a young age. In recent months I have sat across from 3 different sets of parents as they related their heartbreaking stories of how this system is not only failing their children but also destroying a love of learning. The children are developing anxiety disorders, a complete dislike of school and low self-esteem. In my 30 years of practice I have never seen this high frequency of fairly typical children failing kindergarten! I recently learned that trained developmental professionals refuse to sign off on the common core standards because they are so inappropriately matched to the brain's developmental process. I totally agree. Hands on, proven methods are being replaced by a curriculum that is developmentally far too advanced for these young learners.

We do not need cookie cutter student that Common Core would make.

NO COMMON CORE!

Get the federal government out of our schools. Return control to the parents and local school officials. A warning signal should have gone up when Common Core draftees, included the Communist Van Jones.
