STOP commercial development in the Wayside Inn Historic District
We, the undersigned, are strongly opposed to the plans that Buddy Dog Humane Society Inc. of Sudbury has for moving their kennel located on Route 20 to a 9.5 acre parcel of land next to the Wayside Inn Martha Mary Chapel and across from the Wayside Inn Grist Mill with plans to enlarge their current operation.
The Wayside Inn is a National Historic Landmark and the land around the Wayside Inn, including the parcel that Buddy Dog is planning to develop is in the Wayside Inn Historic Preservation Residential Zone. It is worth noting that the residents of Sudbury were clear in the 1988 Town Meeting when the Wayside Inn Historic Preservation Residential Zone was first established, that the area is special and development should be contained.
It is our
strong belief that the development by Buddy Dog of a kennel and related
structures will be significantly detrimental to the neighborhood, significantly
alter the character of the zoning district, and substantially derogates the
intent of the establishment of the Wayside Inn Historic Preservation
Residential Zone. For all three reasons,
we believe the Town of Sudbury should make it very clear that a permit for
developing the property to include a large kennel and educational facility is
not permitted under the towns Zoning Bylaws.
Buddy Dog is neither historic nor residential. It is a business that is certain to tarnish the character and culture of this important Sudbury resource and institution. This is without question one of the worst locations in Sudbury for them to relocate.
We respectfully and adamantly petition Buddy Dog to agree to cease the pursuit of any development in this historical, residential neighborhood. We encourage Buddy Dog to seek out one of the many available, more appropriate, and less costly, parcels out there for a new site for their operations.
