I would love to fight the South Lawn being developed but I am resigned to the fact that the south lawn cannot be sustained as that has been the plans for the past 20 years. However, the prior plans were a building that was in scale with the rest of the island and complimented the existing hotel. The new plans are extreme and I am still do not know how is is approved. In addition this will come at the same time as the tallest building south of NYC starting construction at 8th and Brickell also by Swire. There will be gridlock during construction. As mentioned by others we need a town hall and details on the plans and what will be done to mitigate the impact. While this is happening the lawn should be kept open as long as possible and Swire can house a sales center in the existing office buildings or Mandarin.
Other improvements and costs will be needed on BK once the South Lawn goes away. The green at the center of the island will need to be redone as it floods too much. A plan to restrict access will need to be in place with gates, etc. as it will be overcrowded. Also, the Brickell Key bridge will need to be redone as the sidewalks cannot support the existing pedestrian traffic let along the increase that will happen with this and other developments downtown.
Years ago when I was on my condo board we needed approval from the Master Association just to remove an awning over parking spaces on the garage deck. Now Swire can demo a building without notice and approval from the Master Association??

This will create such excessive population density to the island it will become unlivable. This is not viable. Not to mention, the mental and physical health the green space provides, to the entire city, will be ripped away.

This is not a natural island. This going to cause noise, pollution, overcrowding, traffic nightmares and increases the risk of the island sinking

This development is horrifying for us who live on the island. It is already congested as is.. let alone adding this monster to our beautiful island. I sincerely hope the developers and the city reconsider and perhaps create a project that will be aligned with the charm and lovely community of our beautiful Brickell Key that makes it a gem to live in and not take away from it and turn it into an unlivable place.
